Although it's a nice thing to believe will eventually happen, I tend to favor showing HOW humans transcend their differences. My favorite DS9 episode(s) is 'Past Tense I/II' because it shows that things only change when a watershed event like the Bell Riots make people realize that it could happen to them.

A Utopian future is nice, but is not likely to happen in any event (even in a realistic version of our future) It's better to see what escalated the events that brought about change more than the unrealistic future itself. My SW fictions focus less on technology and jedi abilities and more on personal conflicts that could compare to our own lives.
