  1. I'm not 100% that it's Rush, but there are a few things that made me think it could be: - He was already nationally popular by the early '90s - He's often been characterized with small facial features on a larger head (esp if you look up photos of him circa 1990) - The writing definitely says "RUSH" but the second part is throwing me. It could be RID4 or BID4...It could even be RIDE... or it could be nothing? I thought at first maybe it was supposed to read "BUSH" for HW, but he was never a big guy so I crossed that off my list.
  2. Thanks, @Bennyboy! Very glad to know I caught them all this go through. The Rush reference isn't in the text it's the visual of the man in the "Humans Now Slaves" paper. I'm very curious as to why it would be him featured here.
  3. Yes! They're full of very specific political references. Jesse Helms being "miffed" re: Reagan choosing Bush for a running mate in 1980. (Newspaper 5/7) I think the Mayor is supposed to be Abraham Beame (Mayor of NYC '74- '77) This photo is what sold me on it. (Newspaper 3/7) But the last one I've been trying to figure out is: Is that Rush Limbaugh? If so, why? (Newspaper 7/7)
  4. Well, guess I found myself a project. I started working on this the other day and have managed to get more cutscenes than ever before somehow. I'm thinking at this point it's a combination of time related to actions and switching between characters. Staying on a single individual in a time period or waiting around doesn't seem to result in anything. There are also a handful of lines that will trigger one. I still didn't manage to trigger the one I was looking for though, I'm starting to think I might have made it up. I could have sworn that there is at least one of the moustached tentacle arriving to find Laverne in the tree. (Not the one where she gets down from the tree). Did get to see my favourite newspaper headline though - which I've rarely seen. For sake of records, this is paper 6 out of 7 I've managed to find.
  5. An update in case anyone was hoping to access their old S&M from TTG... I was able to log back in and access the game files, download and install them, however, it won't let me run them. It says I need to log-in, but is not accepting my account information and then tells me to get a Code from TTG. I e-mailed them just to check and the response was essentially that they don't support this game at this time (but more indirect than that). If anyone has any suggestions, happy to take them. I might go ahead an re-purchase and try through Steam - I suppose I can always return it if it won't work.
  6. I've been wondering for ages but never really asked. Does anyone know what exactly triggers all the "Meanwhile"s ("Meanwhilst"s; newspapers) in DOTT? There are a few that I've been able to pinpoint, but some I never seemed to manage to grasp. Also, anyone have a full list of them all? I've been noticing some that I remember from my original CD-ROM version not showing up in my playthroughs of the remastered version, and I'm really curious about it. Tried looking through archives but couldn't see anything on this topic - apologies if this is already done-to-death.
  7. I made it a couple episodes into Beyond Time and Space but then life got hectic and I never finished it. I was out of the loop for most of what happened with Telltale afterwards...but I now find myself with a lot of time on my hands and the need to stay indoors...so my question is: should I still be able to access my purchased version of BTS (which was direct and not via Steam)? And would I still be able to access Devil's Playhouse? (I see it on Steam, but I've been burned before by something no longer working because the developer was gone.)
  8. Very this about Curse, which is my favourite. It really is about that atmosphere which makes each space feel unique, special, and interesting. Even when you have so many different locations within a single island, like Plunder with its beach, town, swamp, jungle, grassy knoll, etc; they somehow all seem to hold together to form a cohesive whole. And I've always loved Blood Island, it's just completely magical to me. But beyond that, i think this is the one that hits my sense of humour the most. I think it's got the best lines, visual gags and references. Then again, I played Curse a lot when it came out. I mean, a lot. You know how sometimes you'll put on music or a TV show for background noise while doing something else? It got to a point that I would do that with Curse. Forget speedruns, I'd go as slow as possible - selecting every longer bit of dialogue, and making sure to extend the conversation trees as much as possible. I would sometimes just leave it sitting on a single screen for a bit while doing something else IRL, waiting to run through all of the different Guybrush asides that could happen, or to hear the whole of Slappy Cromwell's performance rehearsal. I still can quote the game in its entirety from memory. So it may be that it's just the sheer amount of time I spent in it that has made Curse my favourite. When EMI came out, I was so excited and I wanted to like it so badly. I tried to convince myself I was enjoying it. When I finished the game, I cried actual tears because I was so disappointed in it. I've only played it through three times, and one of those was last year. I'd seen an article (can't find it now) that was toting EMI's merits and saying that it basically got a bad wrap because of the fanbase's love for the earlier games and their aversion to change. So I decided to give it another shot - I thought that surely now, with some distance and age, I'd be able to see the good in it. That I could, in some way, divorce it from the franchise and see it objectively as a unique adventure game. That was not the case. I still hated it. I just found it tedious, not funny, and shallow as an overall experience - even before the Monkey Kombat. MI2 is runner-up for me, great storyline, good characters (esp. Largo, Kate, and Gov. Phatt), but it falls apart for me on Dinky and I've actually replayed it multiple times and just stopped when I get there because I don't want to bother with Dinky. I've had similar experiences with MI1, where once i'm on Monkey Island, I just don't want to go through the island bit. Tales is a hit-and-miss for me, and it really goes episode for episode, which makes it hard to rank but I was glad for it overall.
