{DHU}Screed
Is it me or do Blaster shots go entirely to slow to be of any real use from any amount of distances? A sniper can fire his tenloss 4-5 times before your shots even reach him. I think the shots should be almost instantaneous like a bullet. I thought blasters are futuristic weapons? So how come bullets travel faster than light does?
Prime
I agree that they could be made to go faster...
Sam
I dont think bullets go light speed.....faster than sound not light lol
the weiner dog!
A lot of people have said that they should travel faster; this was an old gripe a lot of people had with jk2. Problem comes in the way of saber deflection. As far as player dodging is concerned, that is what the force is for. Look at the way level 3 seeing dodges sniper fire. You could easily say no human can dodge bullets but letting the force power usage be your key to dodging them would make perfect sense. But as far as sabers go, while you could make the power be the sole source of deflection, I really don't think you could pull of a "realistic" animation for the player model that people would like. You could basically just not have the bullets register on the hit boxes and keep the same "block" animations but they are not going to be in sync with the actual shots. The only way to have them in sync is to speed up the player animations to an unreal speed that’s going to look really silly. Think about how fast an Mp-5 fires in counter-strike. Now try to picture in sync block animations. It’s going to look goofy.
obijonkenobi
The speed of light is roughly 300'000'000 metres per second. On this note I shall bring up its about 8 minutes for light from the sun to reach earth. So if bullets travel at light speed, you're saying it takes 8 minutes from a bullet fired at earth to reach the sun (assuming theres no gravity to hinder its leaving the earths atmosphere at the start). This is highly unlikely. The speed of sound is about 330 meters per second. The velocity (speed) of rifle bullets varies between 600 and 5000 feet (180 and 1500 meters) per second. So bulets may travel anywhere up to about Mach 5 but smaller firearms would travel slower. (Mach 5 and higher is known as hypersonic, Mach1 -> Mach4 is supersonic)
t3rr0r
sfx2 mod for jo had great projectile speeds.
Homeboy
I've looked into the JO source code. The blaster rifles bullet speed was 2500, compared to player running speed of 250. This translates into about 100 meter/second in real life, where an M-16 rifle bullet goes 850 meter/second. I think the bullets are waaayyyy too slow. But it's very easy to mod!
