well we got broadband yesterday and we only have 500Mb of downloads per month, and i didnt play JA online yesterday cos of it, but my sister (yep sister) played it for the first time yesterday non-stop cos of the low ping which i havnt tryed yet. So can u tell me how much Mb of downloads playing on line takes up? I mean if its like 1Mb per hour then its alright, but otherwize i better not play it at all for 18 months untill we get the unlimited thing.

You have a 500mb cap to download traffic a month?

If you're serious, drop that provider and go dial up.

I got cable via a LAN, and, I admit, I can never use dial-up again - you just can't go back! But if you have such a low cap per month, it isn't even worth the speed, if you use it all in a week (or less)!

I got ADSL from btopenworld, now bt yahoo broadband and it's been good for me, no caps on bandwidth/downloading at all. I agree with idontlikegeorge, if they are limited the amount of traffic you send and receive ditch them for another provider, However it may be worth checking if they mean you can only download files upto 500mb per month but have unlimited traffic like on a gaming server (but how they would distinguish i wouldn't be able to tell).

Why not post some details of who your new broadband provider is so i can check em out. No offense but it could be you could have read them wrong they may have reffered to your upload and download speeds as broadband is an always on connection to the net and that limit would only allow you to surf web pages and most providers target broadband to people who not only surf the net but play games online too.

Precisely my boat also ;)

Seriously dude, you should consider a new ISP, everyone bar AOL so I've heard.......

But whatever company your with at the moment sounds like a complete daylight robbery - i.e. paying up to double what you'd pay for dial-up AND limiting your downloads.

500 megs??? Wow if I had that isp I would reach the limit before the first day I got it.

Anyway here's something that should help you out if you plan on using it: http://bandwidthmonitorpro.swmirror.com/BMonitorPro.exe

My suggestion would be to install it and run JK right afterwards for an hour and then check the monitor because it'll let you know exactly how much data has been downloaded and how much has been uploaded.

Just so you know though a game takes about 10 k/s speed. So if you play for a minute that's 600k and that would make an hour total up to 36000k.

I don't think JA takes up very much by way of bandwidth, but 500mb is low (although I see it doesn't really apply to you now). In comparison, my ISP has a limit of about 3 Gigs...
