bkh0501
I am using a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra and am experiencing lock-up problems with the new 52.16 drivers. At first, it seemed as though performance had increased, but to my dismay, it didn't solve problems with dynamic glow. It may not have been designed to do so, but I was hoping that it would. It did solve my fog problems and increase frame rates in Jedi Academy (hooray!), because my computer has been locking up. It is the first time my system has locked-up since I purchased my PC a year ago. Is anyone aware of how the bios and current AGP controller drivers affect graphics card performance? On another note, the lock-ups occur when I ran Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, and Quake 2. So I know that this is not completely related to Quake 3-based games alone. I've timed them and it takes about a minute. Has this happened to anyone else? Who should I contact for technical support with these darn drivers. Oh well, I guess the Detonator drivers will have to suffice... Pentium 4 2.40 GHz 512 MB RDRAM nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra Windows XPdid
Silent Bob
Try the starstrom 52.16 drivers from Guru3d there in the forums under Nvidia drivers section. There are 2 versions quality and proformance. They improved the over all play in the game and no lock-ups. But I've only used the beta 52.16 not the WHQL'ed ones, so I never expierienced any lock-ups.
Andy867
Well, the drivers from Nvidia werent really meant to help FIX the dynamic glow or anything like that. That is something I think was mentioned that Raven/LucasArts/Activision are going to be taking care of, as well as some other bugs/glitches. bkh0501
I hope so, I also hope nVidia finds a way to fix their ForceWare 52.16 drivers so they don't lock my machine up. I know it's a memory leak, because even my on/off switch on my PC wont work.
Andy867
Well that sounds like a separate issue since the on/off switch is controller through the motherboard and NOT the memory.
bkh0501
I have tried all 52.xx Starstorm drivers as well as the official 52.16 Forceware drivers from nVidia, but for some odd reason, despite the fact that I get a framerate boost, and the fog problem solved, my machine locks-up after about a minute, whether I'm in game, or customizing my player. What does this mean? I do everything, like turning force feedback off, dynamic glow off, etc., but that's a separate issue. Do I need to update my motherboard drivers, BIOS or something? Anyone know? Andy867
It sounds like it could be possibly some driver conflict besides OpenGL, try running the DirectX Setup (DXDIAG in the RUN option under the start menu) Have you tried re-installing the game? bkh0501
DXDIAG shows that everything is fine. The lock-ups happen when I run Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, Quake 2, plus anything else that uses my graphics card....OpenGL?
tFighterPilot
It feels kinda good to know that I'm not alone It's really irritating in MP, when I almost kill someone, and the damn computer freeze. After it comes back, I always find myself dead. I'm not quite sure exactly what couses it, since it never happened to me on the hoth siege, but it happens in the other 2 (esspecially tatooine, especially when I'm on a swoop)
bkh0501
I reverted back to the old Det 44.03 drivers from nVidia. It solved the fog problem. However, framerates are reduced, overall performance slightly decreases. The picture quality is almost worth sacrificing some frame-rates for. But, the new 52.16 drivers gave me both the performance and the quality. But what's up with my computer completely freezing? It permanantly locks up...it doesn't return back to the game, like you were describing in MP. It does this with all the other 52.xx drivers. Why?
