WIP - Sword Hilt

Aegis Runestone

Recommended Posts

Here's the image I'm following for my model:

Here's what I got so far:

Pretty sweet, huh? It's my first hilt. This is just the basic form, now I have to add all the details. :)

The hilt is of a sword I made up, called the Runestone Family Sword. The image above(drawing) is the Spectral Brand from Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. I made a custom sowrd in BG2 and that's the Runestone Family Sword. I liked the look of the Spectral Brand best so I used it. Now I'm modelling the hilt for JA. After I'm done with the hilt I'll add in the blade.

I'm using Milkshape...

What spikey bits are you referring to? You mean on the handle? Or what? Or Are referring to the stuff at the bottom of the image? That's the blade of the sword.

You need to be a bit more specific. I mean, what parts are out of proportion? The head? The handle? I'm planning on either making the handle and the pommel thinner and smaller, or elongating it. Or I might do both.

Another thing is that the model is zoomed in. In JA, when I test it, the model is a lot smaller. But you are right, it looks a little "thick" to me. *shrug* I think it's

the handle. But it looks okay to me overall, I may need to change a few things.

Keep in mind, the second image is not textured, it will possibly look different w/textures.

Aegis,

Do you still need help learning how to skin map this sucka? If so, email me and I'll send you a beta of my tutorial that includes skin mapping. Also, if you want to send me your hilt, I'll take a look at it because it's difficult to see what parts are out of proportion in a 3D ms3d shot.

The hilt looks great. The tag_blade is a bit high of the hilt as the bottom of the saber blade will start here:

unless you were looking for the magical floating effect.

Good job on your first hilt! This can't be your first model too is it?

Thanx, but no thanx. I asked a friend at school and they pointed out what looks wrong. The hilt is too short and too thick, plus, around the head is missing the 'rings' around it. :) The tag_blade1 I discovered, I think the blade comes from the center of the triangle, not the point or the line. But it's the effect I want. I'm also planning to create a staff variation and a sword with blade variation.

I'll call you if I need help, first I need to get the texture together, but I think I've figured out how to use Milkshape's Texture Editor. Well, does your tutorial use Milkshape?

Unless you count my Descent modelling experience for Descent II using Polytron, yes, it is my first model. :p Thanx. :) I'll say this: Milkshape rocks.

both sides

Also I was talking about the 4 thin sharp looking things that would so around the base of the blade. they look about 5 inches long in the pic and are about an inch and a half apart. I can make i pic if u need one.

As for the Gem, I'm not sure, in a real sword, would the gem be on both sides?
