Dagobahn Eagle
Recently, I've taken an interest in the research conducted by the USAF at the airbase known as "Area 51" by most UFOlogists. Now, being a fighter plane enthusiast (I like them for their speed and maneouverability, not for the fact that they kill people:p), I've taken an interest in the recent sightings near the Air Force base, namely the Aurora plane* that's supposedly being produced/tested as the base. Based on limited witness reports and intelligence, the Aurora is a triangle-shaped fighter plane. What catches my interest, though, is the engine which is employed by this new piece of technology: Reportedly, it sounds as if "the Heavens are being ripped apart", and it leaves behind a strange engine trail. I have a photography of the trail in a magazine article, but I can't post it here. The best description I can give is that it looks like a regular jet trail, but with "knots" evey fifty-houndred metres (try picturing a thread or rope with knots on it). According to plane experts, the jet trail might be generated by a new type of combustion engine with nearly no moveable parts. Do anyone have any more information on this new engine? I don't know how long a thread this will be, but let's get it started:)! Oh, and don't turn this into a thread on UFOs, even if 'Area 51' is mentioned. Lets' keep this scientific. Dagobahn Eagle Source: Norsk Illustrert Vitenskap [Norwegian Illustrated Science], popular-science magazine. *This might not be the plane's official name. "Aurora" was the name of a research project regarding a new type of plane accidentaly put on an unclassified list of army expenditures.
wassup
Here is a comprehensive website devoted to the supposedly in-development reconnaisance aircraft. They list some possible engines for the aircraft on this page Note that it states Pulse Jets have "mechanically very simple and have very little moving parts." Pictures of the supposedly "donuts-on-a-rope" shape of the exhaust trail can be found here
Dagobahn Eagle
Thank you for the link. Generally, the magazine article I read summed up some of the information on this site (although it of course wasn't based on the website:)). The site looks to me like a UFOlogist site: It's biased towards a belief in the Aurora. Furthermore, some of the articles on the site, like this one http://aurorapage.tripod.com/technical/ahistory.html, are outdated. I still found it an interesting read, though. By the way, how did you come across that site? Dagobahn Eagle

El Sitherino
The aurora project was taking place in the 60's and 70's. The stealth fighter is the Aurora plane (early model). Area 51 isn't a term by ufologists either, It is taken from back during the 40's to the 60's when military base zones were just classified as numerical areas, ie. Area 51, aka Groom lake. I have some videos of shows and home videos of old military testings over remote Nevada desserts. I suggest you watch some of the programs on the history channel (narrorated by Leonard Nemoy ) I've gone to the little Alien Inn to visit the hilltop that allows you to see the base but it has been recently been barred off by military posts, I suppose if there is no base they shouldn't have those there but if you stand on the hill military staff will come to escort you away, very secretive right? PS: I'm a big Area 51 nut and a ufo story reader. I know many sightings are fake but there are some that you must question. by the way UFO's exist, they may not be alien spacecraft, but UFO means Un-Identified Flying Object Check out some old maps from the 20's also, you can see where Groom Lake used to be listed until the Roswell incident, when they suddenly took Groom Lake off. (I know Roswell is in New Mexico, but people suggest they took the debris to Area 51)
Dagobahn Eagle
Area 51 isn't a term by ufologists either, It is taken from back during the 40's to the 60's when military base zones were just classified as numerical areas, ie. Area 51, aka Groom lake. I already knew that, actually. I meant that most UFOlogists refer to the base as Area 51. Check out some old maps from the 20's also, you can see where Groom Lake used to be listed until the Roswell incident, when they suddenly took Groom Lake off. (I know Roswell is in New Mexico, but people suggest they took the debris to Area 51) Probably a coincidence, I would say. The 20's were right on the heels of World War 1 and Europe was extremely tense. I don't blame them for wanting some extra security around their test facilities. As a footnote on American map editing, the village where the workers building the first atomic bomb worked and lived with their families wasn't on the map either. According to my US History book, a resident said that "it was extremely frustrating to order a pizza. They'd say 'what town are you talking about? It's not on the map?":D. Dagobahn Eagle PS: I'm very interested in the light phenomena in Hessdalen Valley, Norway, being researched by the Project Hessdalen team. I don't think they're extraterrestrial or occult spirits or anything like that, but they fall into the inexplicable category. That said, enough about aliens. Let's get back on topic
Kurgan
The whole Area 51 bit is interesting to say the least, but I chalk it up to more "military intelligence" stuff. There was a military base there certainly, but for now it's just a big conspiracy buff magnet. If I were into conspiracies I'd be more likely to say that the whole Area 51 thing has been drummed up as a DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN to throw people off from the REAL secrets. ; ) Some people say that "aliens" are visiting and have a secret alliance with the government or a secret cold war going on (cue "X-Files" theme music). However, just think of the absurdity of it all... an alien race has to be INCREDIBLY advanced to be able to visit us, traversing vast vast distances while remaining completely undetected. Government scandals easily break, and yet all solid evidence for the existence of extraterrestrials visiting us is about as solid as photos of the Loch Ness Monster (ie: not solid at all, and most easily exposed as hoaxes). Are there secret aircraft designs being made, tested, planned in places like Area 51? Almost assuredly. People mistook the Stealth Bomber/Fighter as alien spacecraft for years until the government finally revealed what they were: very terrestrial human-made military vehicles. If Aliens were really in contact with the US government, how long before the other governments of the world would demand in on the action? Sorry to go on about aliens, but if they were that advanced, why would they care what the US government thinks? Why would the "drunken hick aliens" (sorry to offend our hick brethren out there, I'm just borrowing a punchline I didn't make up) crash their ships into the earth and the alien government not swoop in and flash everybody with their "Men in Black" style mind wipers? Why don't the aliens just take over or bull-doze the earth for their Interstellar Hyperspace Bypass (a la "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy")? So the aliens traverse countless lightyears in their super advanced ships just to get grainy photos snapped and to hob knob with the President and Bill Gates and crash their ships in the desert? The logic of it just doesn't hold together. Btw, interesting fact: some set pieces created for the 1990's sci series "Space Above and Beyond" were pretty good! Full-scale models of the "Hammerhead" fighters used in the series were created and shipped from Japan. While they were being stored on board the freighter before shipping, crewmen from a Russian freighter were caught taking pictures of them after mistakenly thinking they were a new kind of advanced U.S. tactical fighter. daring dueler
I think there was a special on thei topic on sci-fi, or maybe history channel about 2 months ago, very interesting. im not gonna go way into the subject of extra terestreials stuff, but as for ufo, they are just unidentified. i think in this subject there were scientists coming up with a new way to make a new engine or power for a craft. i beleive it was nuclear powered and that is why people thoguh ti was aliens, because it left behind signs of radioactivity and such, when they claimed it landed. and such. last nite on sci-fi channel was a show "UFO invasion at Rendlesham", great show, and it resembled this topic, triangluar and such..... okay im getting off topic here. so basically i think its cool, probly our govt. making some new craft, i mean check out how secretive they were with the stealth bomber.
