Can't play Monkey4 on XP

I'm trying to make Escape from Monkey Island work on Windows XP. Tried using SCUMMVM, version 0.5.1, but can't seem to make it work. Maybe I'm using the program wrong, or does it not work for EMI? Has anyone made EMI work on XP, and if so can you tell me how to do it?

Edit - I have patched the game, and I've also tried running in OpenGL instead of Direct3D, but this didn't work. The game will start, but it crashes to desktop right after Guybrush says "sometimes when it's quiet I can still hear the monkeys."

Does it give any errors? What sort of computer, video card, etc are you running?

Also, be sure your video and sound card drivers, as well as your version of DirectX are the most current.

(And ScummVM doesn't work for EMI since EMI doesn't use SCUMM, it uses a different engine called GRIME which was developed for Grim Fandango)

I don't get an error message, it just crashes to the desktop after the line I mentioned above. Or, I can go directly into the first part of the game and that will work just fine, but when Guybrush sinks the ship and its going into the next cutscene, it crashes there.

Well, that explains why SCUMM won't work.

I have Athalon 1 GHz with 320 MB RAM and GeForce 2 card. Have latest drivers, but do not have latest DirectX because I had problems with DirectX 9 with one game and had to go back to 8.1. If going to 9 will make EMI work I will gladly do so. (It's a snap to upgrade, but somewhat more complicated to go back to older version.)

Any help with this is much appreciated. I see from searching other messages that apparently some people have made this game work with XP, but I can't find anything that says how they did it.

Upgrading Direct X will definately help (it's one of the main things needed for gameplay). Use the Direct X provided on the EMI disk.

And Just so you know, most people have managed to make EMI run on XP, it was created after XP was brought out, or at least close to it's release so It definately should work on new OS's like XP.
