Jacsen
Ok, now that that's out of the way.... I bought the "Russian" version of JA (LEGAL!) off of ebay, but when I install the game, it asks (in Russian) whether you want to install the Russian version or the English version. I pick English. Works fine, game plays fine, even multiplayer (for the few 1.0 servers left...) NOW, when I try to install the 1.01 patch, I get the following message... quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy not found. Please reinstall the game from the original CD-ROM and try again. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It goes without saying that I've done this at least 10 times, with both the Russian and English versions. I've used Regcleaner to get rid of any residuals each time. I've deleted the game folder. I've tried installing it to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy, C:\Jedi Academy, E:\Jedi Academy, C:\Program Files\Jedi Academy, C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Jedi Academy, etc. etc. I've tried every directory structure ever suggested on this forum (unless I'm missing a colon? I don't know.) The problem is, apparently most people see some kind of prompt asking them where to install it? Well, I don't even get that far!!!! I'm about to give up... I swear it's a legal version, but if the patch only works for the "US Version from the US CD" and doesn't work with the "US Version from the Russian CD" then why the HELL did they only release one patch and not a multilingual patch, if they are going to sell the game in many languages? Here are some registry entries I pulled on JA, let me know if you spot any problems. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Jedi Academy_is1] "Inno Setup: Setup Version"="4.0.2-beta" "Inno Setup: App Path"="E:\\JediAcademy" "Inno Setup: Icon Group"="Jedi Academy" "Inno Setup: User"="Sean McNamara" "Inno Setup: Setup Type"="enginstall" "Inno Setup: Selected Components"="engfiles" "Inno Setup: Deselected Components"="rusfiles" "Inno Setup: Selected Tasks"="desktopicon" "Inno Setup: Deselected Tasks"="" "DisplayName"="Jedi Academy" "UninstallString"="E:\\JediAcademy\\unins000.exe"
Andy867
Are you SURE that its legal, because that line in the registry about the setup beta looks a little suspicious to me, especially since my copy of JA, which is legal, does not have that line or most of them. It is possible that someone compiled the beta onto a CD to make it work like the legal version. did it come in the actual Jedi Academy box, or just some plastic sleeve pack? Prime
I didn't think there even was a Russian version of JA. Sounds fishy to me...
Jacsen
Assuming it *is* illegal, then why am I able to play for long periods on multiplayer (and host servers for long periods) on 1.0 with no problems? Also, if it's a beta, why does it work with the official release in multiplayer? Why do the CDs have the official JA imprint? Why can I not copy the CD or load it into gamedrive? (the copy protection is WORKING properly!) Why did it come in the official JA box with the official JA jewel case? Sure, all the material is printed in Russian, but that's simply a LucasArts localization. It's pretty easy to localize the non-game material with InstallShield's help (I'm in the industry and I can tell you it's not that bad if you have the translation) and the in-game material is totally in English except for subtitles of conversations and the "Rules" screen in JA MP. If this CD is somehow illegal, by some incredible faker who spent a great deal of money copying all the official LucasArts hardware (the box, the jewel case, the printing on the CDs and the "silver" color on the data side of the CD instead of the telltale green/blue of home-made CDs), then LEC needs to get better copy protection. But if it's a bug in the patch or the original setup for the Russian version, then may my unheard echoes of tireless exertion forever haunt the conscience of the hasty post-release programmer novice who spackled together this patch!
