question about scripting: yavin

with all the new lightsabers i've recently added to my game it makes the two special yavin cystals somewhat obsolete, since i get them so late in the game. what i want is to make a way that the third trandoshan encounter (where you kill the trandoshans) at yavin is triggered in place of the second trandoshan (where you don't kill them) encounter so i can get all the really good stuff he sells, including the two special crystals, after the third star map instead of the last and use them thru the rest of the planets until the end where i can get the modded lightsabers i've installed.

i assume this would have to involve changing the scripting some how, which i would not even know where to start, also the dialogue may have to be changed a little bit to fix any continuity errors that would arise from skipping the second encounter completely, luckily everyone who talks on yavin is alien and therefore has generic voice over files that can be used for the new dialogues. the only other issue i can think of comes with the store itself, it could either a)work exactly as i want it to and restock the store with both the second encounter merch and the third encounter merch or b) only stock the second encounter merch since the game knows this is only my second time at yavin or c) stock with third encounter merch but leave out the second encounter merch entirely from skipping it.

thanks in advance to any scripters out there who want to try and take this on

I think this should be pretty easily done without the use of any script. Use kotor tools to open yavin's module. The name of the module file is liv_m99aa_s.rim under RIM --> Modules. There you will find three files suvam01.utm, suvam02.utm, and suvam.03.utm among other files. Extract these into the override folder and simply rename the numbering. I think you have to change the TemplateResRef inside the file also to correspond to the new numbering. These three files, i believe are the three different sets of store that suvam sells at three different times. I have not tested this though.

so hypothetically if i change suvam02.utm to suvam03.utm will his store include everything you can buy from him (suvam01, suvam02, and suvam03) or just the stuff i can buy the third time (so suvam01 and suvam03) also will the dialogue with the trandoshan's be the same, at the end i have to kill them and suvam says he will show me the special stash, or is this basically going to be just the second encounter (no killing) but he just restocks the store with everything?

i'd test this my self, but this would be almost impossible to test with the cheats, since i dont know if there is a way to "give starmap" so i'd have to play thru the first three starmaps to find out, and the only saves i have right now are both on the star forge

I am not sure what you are talking about. Perhaps my first explanation was not too clear. Let me try this one more time.

Those three UTM files contain the list of items that are being sold by Suvam. Suvam1.utm contains the list of items that are sold before any transdoshan event, Suvam2 after the first transdoshan event, and Suvam3 is after the last encounter with the transdoshans. Following the story line, The new lightsaber crystals are listed in the Suvam3 utm file after the last encounter. So basically, all you have to do is to rename Suvam3.utm to become Suvam1.utm. This way, Suvam will sell those crystals right at the beginning. Note that all other things, like conversations remain the same. We are merely changing the list of items being sold by Suvam.

It's also worth note that it would probably be a good idea to simply copy suvam03.utm twice, naming one of them suvam01.utm and the other suvam02.utm. This way, no matter what stage of the game you happen to be in, when the game goes looking for his "grocery list", it will always be his FULL inventory regardless of any story events etc etc since all three files are now identical (as overrides).

Reason I mention this is because if you simply rename 03 to 01, and then progress far enough to have the first encounter up on Yavin (where you chase the bad guys away but don't fight) you'd still wind up using the 02 file from that point until you return and actually have the battle.

Small detail, but felt it was worthy of mention.

Oh.. If someone felt particularly iritated about having to fly to Yavin to get this stuff, you could also look in other modules and find vendors who sell things you don't really need (like maybe the guy on Dantooine who plays pazaak and sells some cards, or the guy who sells some stuff by a speeder on the plains etc) and make a copy of the suvam03.utm and name it whatever the other vendor's file was called.

I haven't tried it, but that SHOULD change the other person's inventory to Suvam's instead. Of course, Dantooine probably isn't the ideal location for it, since unless you've used other mods/cheats of some variety, I doubt you'd be able to afford very much before the point where Dantooine gets blasted ;)

Don't complain, I applause AlBundy for having used the search function!!! :D He should get a prize ! at least a cookie :burg1:

I wish I could help with the question but I don't really have time to look at it. Verify the Res_Ref and the Tag fields in the .utm files.
