Lindsey
This Star Wars Fan film contest i'm entering a film into mentions in the rules there can't be any copyrighted music-including star wars music. I've noticed on many star wars themed screen savers and such that they converted the star wars music into MIDI format, making it sound different. The contest people have side stepped the issue, but, is it legal or non copy righted to have MIDI versions of a copy righted song in a film? Or to say, could I use this method to put star wars music in my movie?
RoxStar
Musical notes and rhythms are copyrighted so yes, MIDIS aren't allowed.
topshot
No, unless you come up with some original work of your own creation.
BCanr2d2
Unless you create the SW based midi yourself, then it would be subject to copyright. No doubt people will have converted from a rip of some sort and then to a midi. So, in essence, Not on your nelly!
