Eagle Warrior
How slow do you think the at-ats will go. I would not want to sit there for 10 minutes trying to get to the rebels base in the at-at.
JawaJoey
Note: AT-ATs have really really long legs. They seem slow, but I'd like to see you go that fast.
GorillaPaws
I'm pretty sure that it will take at least a little while to reach the rebel base (either they move fast on a HUGE map) or they are slower on a smaller map, but regardless it won't be any fun if you start the mission as a rebel and a minute later the empire is already at your base stomping on everyone. However, this doesn't mean that you won't have anything to do as an AT-AT pilot (i.e. you're gonna be trying to take out all those snow speeders and wanabe skywalkers, plus trying to target turrets and the like in echo base to thin out the hard-core defences for the infantry). StormHammer
GorillaPaws is right - you won't just be 'sitting there' in an AT-AT. Apart from repelling attacks on your vehicle, I'm sure there will be objectives along the way to be captured or destroyed, and plenty of rebels to fight. Besides, I'm also sure you will be able to disembark from a vehicle at any time, so if piloting an AT-AT gets boring, you can hand the reins over to someone else while you go and do something else on the map. This is a team game, and nothing is set in concrete, after all.

Eagle Warrior
It would take some time before the emeny even got to you. SO all you would be doing is walking.

Considering your enemy will have Snowspeeders, I think you may be in for a surprise. Those flying vehicles move quite fast, and can probably cover a lot of terrain fairly quickly. Also, none of us have any idea where particular spawn points will be situated on the map, so it's perfectly feasible for enemies to spawn within a useful proximity to your position. A spy, for example, may be able to try and infiltrate an AT-AT and cause havoc by planting charges. We really don't know what to expect until we can sit down and play it. GorillaPaws
The main question I have about the AT-AT's (the primary reason I'm so stoked about this game), is what they look like when they turn. I mean clearly they aren't exactly manuverable, but I wonder what the turning radius would be? 1000 yards? or do you think they could do some slow but stationary pivioting manuver? It's something we didn't see in the movie, and I wonder how the dev's will deal with this.

It's not like a ship at sea, which is going at a particular speed and needs to take that into consideration when turning. In the movie you see an AT-AT simply stop in it's tracks to home in on a snowspeeder to take it out of the air - so I imagine they can turn fairly easily. The thing that always bothered me most about the design of the AT-AT was the lack of a rear-mounted gun. I know the Empire is all about frontal assault, but still it's undeniable that the AT-AT is vulnerable from the air, and from beneath. Even a traditional 'tank' has a gun on a swivelling turret to fire at the rear when moving forward.

Maybe they move by moving the legs on one side slower and/or shorter than the legs on the other side? A lot of planes turn by decreasing the power of one engine while increasing that of the other. Actually, you can get a fairly good impression on how fast they move from watching Luke chase them. I'd say about 15-20 km/h? Oh, and they don't need rear guns: They've got units to cover them. Sabretooth
Actually, my favourite hobby is to sunbathe on top of an AT-AT. JK I won't hang out much on them. The AT-ST in JKA was a nightmare and it sounded as if it is fresh from the junkyard. It would be interesting to fire with that baby, though. So I would just go as infantry, while somebody comes with the AT-AT behind me. When the base is in sight, I hop in and the fragfest begins!
