sb_gat
I can't believe I did it. I totally flooded the Kashyyk map. All the combat now is going on below 10 metres of solid, killing WATER The consequences? Well, I still did not find out how to make weapons shoot underwater and how to make soldiers live underwater, so the death tally is increasing very, vary fast... I'm a bit busy now (trying to make soldiers not die and use weapons), so screenies will come in a while P.S. I deleted the old thread. All suggestions and help (I really need it) submit here. sb_gat
Okay, now I've experimented with all maps that have water layers and received the following results: Kashyyk - Islands Welcome to the waterworld: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/waterworld.jpg Jedi Fighter surfboard: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk3.jpg How deep it really is: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk10.jpg I fiddled a bit with transparency, to see all what's going on below the water. It's still really deep: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk2.jpg Floating vehicles: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk1.jpg In a sunken gunship: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk5.jpg The LAAT gun cabine is working underwater. I am killing droids. http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk6.jpg The droideka, using it's shields, manages to live a few seconds more. It's guns operational, it kills a teammate: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk9.jpg Kashyyk - Docks I tried as hard as I could, but could not raise water higher than this: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/docks_exp.jpg Yavin - Temple Uh, not very pretty, but still quite high: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk11.jpg I come into the block of water and see the fish around me: http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/yav_fish.jpg Naboo - Theed: I can also raise and lower water as I like to, but it's not on the whole map. Same "water cube" as on Yavin. http://www.lab321.ru/~stas/jetmod/sunk7.jpg Kamino This map HAS a water layer, but I could not do anything to alter it's height. Maybe you'll be luckier So, any suggestions or feedback?
Kurgan
Wow, that's amazing. Once tools are released, putting together some swimming animations, ScubaTroopers and water vehicles would be neat-o. Imagine a battle for the Gungan city? Maybe we can finally re-create that long-rumored (but never filmed, though something like it was created in the Clone Wars series) "water battle." ; ) All I can say is, great discovery....! sb_gat
Kurgan, yes, I was thinking just about that CW episode. I mean, it's natural (the engine allows it to be!) and it's cool (not many games allow scuba battles ) With subs0nics help I've given the wookie allies the CIS repeater. Nonetheless it didn't help - the wookies cannot use the repeater underwater. But now at least I know that it's definetely not the weapon settings, it's the class settings that allow the droideka shoor submerged.
Alegis
a droideka acts like a vehicle and you were able to shoot with the LAAT Well too bad swbf doesnt have any swimming animations etc
MandalorianRage
Something I noticed about water, that you probably already know, is that not only do guns not work in the water, but when you fire at something that's submerged, the laser just stops the second it hits the water. I learned that lesson the hard way while playing the docks. I was trying to take out a crouching Super Battle Droid, and couldn't get a good hit on it because I was trying to shoot for his body that was submerged. reltes
you know what someone needs to do is take the rainy yavin level with the dark sky etc. raise the water (if you can) to waist deep and modify the foliage. darken the light more if possible (like the nightime kashyyyk level) and make it a dagobah map! you could also put an x-wing in a pool of water so that only the very top is visible ala luke's ship in esb. sb_gat
Okay, here's the progress for today. I managed to have a bit of combat (seriously!). Set up the droideka shield to charge up a bit less than the amount lost from being submerged - and here we go! I set both teams for droideka classes and went to enemy command point. As soon as 2 enemy droidekas apperared, they switched shields on and we had a shootout in the deep. I also tried to fiddle with color, but no real results yet (tried to make water on Kas1 look the same as on Kas2). I'll try to add a "walk" object to the map and see if it works out. sb_gat
Today brought new answers and questions. The param defining an object's Class is "BASE". The droideka has a unique, separate BASE "walkerdroid". As you see, "walkerdroid" is a lot longer than "soldier", so I could not try out whether usual "soldiers" can become droidekas But I tried the opposite. I changed the BASE for droideka from "walkerdroid" to "soldier". Absolutely playable, but the 3d model is all gone wrong - the head is torn apart from the body, guns are squashed as soon as I did it, the droideka could not shoot anymore underwater (and interestingly enough it could switch back-forth between the "weapon" and the "shield" as the secondary weapon Attempts to change a BASE param to "droid" (repair droids), "cannon" (guns) or something else leads to a crash. The question is, if the settings are for the "SOLDIER" basetype, where do I find the original "SOLDIER" settings to alter it? Just in case someone knows. BASE values found in SWBF listing: pers: walkerdroid (droideka's unique base) soldier (all the rest of game units) droids (repair, splly & medical): droid flying vehicles: flyer hovering -||- hover guns (all from handguns to big weapons) cannon beams bolt rockets, torps bullet or rocket exlosions explosion these are not all, but most of them. sb_gat
DarkDan721, could you please give a hint where I should be looking into (which file)?.. There's just too much instances of "weapon" in LVL files, but I can't find any that is connected with water, though...

sb_gat
Anyone else know where are the settings for water damage and BASE properties? It's clearly in the BASE settings (both the ability to shoot and the ability to live underwater). So if anyone could give me a hint, where are the properties for the BASEs of objects (soldier, walkerdroid, cannon, etc...) I'd be most grateful.
