Dr. Jekyll
I'm working on my next mod, which includes making my first item (yay). Does creating a new color for a lightsaber blade require creating a new crystal? If not, where is the file to edit? It would seem to me that if I didn't create a new crystal, all the sabers of the color I'm editing would change as well, but perhaps there's a way around this? Edit BTW, why do both threads I started have black dots on the envelope icons on the left side of the main screen? Edit again Never mind, I figured it (the envelope thing, not the saber question!) out (silly me).
Mono_Giganto
You don't need to make a new crystal, but if you plan on making a saber upgradeable, then you should add a crystal or the game could crash/you could lose the modded saber. Refer to Achille's lightsaber tutorial.

You are right in the fact that if you're editing an existing color, it WILL change all the sabers that use that color crystal. Take Mono_G's advice and follow Achille's saber tutorial. After following that, making sabers has become second nature...that and upgradeable sabers are the 'in' thing of course, there was that one time.... I won't submit you to the torture of that particular thread...
Mono_Giganto
T7's also got a nifty tutorial, though it may be harder to understand, but then again Achilles hadn't made his yet when I learned to make sabers...

Dr. Jekyll
Um, I hate to keep bugging people with noob questions, but I followed the tutorials, and got my saber in-game, but it's not upgradeable. When I try to upgrade it, it disappears. Anybody know what I did wrong? For what it's worth, I must admit I didn't really understand the saber crystal tutorial that is supposed to make the saber upgradable. Can somebody give me very simple step-by-step directions for creating a crystal the color of either Heart of the Guardian of Mantle of the Forge (whichever one is blue-ish, I don't remember.) that will make my saber upgradable? Mono_Giganto
You likely messed up doing your hex editing, try redo-ing that.
Dr. Jekyll
Hex editing? That's for custom hilts, right? I'm not to that stage yet, right now I'm just trying to make a light blue-ish upgradeable saber with some special bonuses. Of course, if hex editing is neccesary for that, you've found the problem! Hex editing is required for custom hilts AND blades, regardless of upgradeability.
EnderWiggin
Yay, I've finally found some1 to ask about custom lightsabers! Ok, after editing the uti and telling it to use a custom modelvar/tag and stuff, and maybe a utc to place the item in-game, I write/extract ERFs>Texturepacks> GUI> and then the icon file. I edit the icon with photoshop, and then extract/ write ERFs> TPA>w> and then the lightsaber color file i want as a base. I edit/ mess around in Photoshop, and then save it as the tag i used in the uti. I save and slap all files in override. I console or find my saber. I equip it. Now, What's the need for Hex Editing??? I didnt read any tutorial, i was just experimenting. _EW_
Mono_Giganto
Hex editing is how you make the saber model "point" to your custom textures. If your lightsaber uses an already made color, like red, and does not use a custom hilt, you don't need to hex edit.
EnderWiggin
I reskinned the saber color...... and dont have a custom hilt. I dont see any flaws... I would like to know how to model swords though. Unfortunately i am clueless... _EW_
Mono_Giganto
If you reskinned an existing color, IE made Mantle of the Force purple or something, no hex is required, it's only for unique sabers with custom colors.
EnderWiggin
So i reskinned the color of the green saber with custom colors + its icon custom, saved it as new tgas, and edited the uti's Tag, Model var, Template ResRef, description, name and properties. Isnt that a custom saber? Or is Hex editing for custom hilts? How do you make hilts? How do you edit in Gmax? Oh wait..... That's a different topic.... I am very confused... _EW_
