megacles
Hey guys, I'm newish here. I'm a long time Monkey Island fan - The Secret of Monkey Island was one of the first games I ever played, and remains my favourite game to this day. Anyway, sorry if this has been thought of before, but what if they start Monkey Island 5 right where MI2 ended, and make the events of MI3 and 4 part of the voodoo curse LeChuck cast over Guybrush at the end of 2? That would give Gilbert or whoever they get to make the game a clean slate to start from. I know Gilbert hated Guybrush and Elaine getting married... well now they don't have to be! What do you think?
Herman Toothdecay
I think that is exactly what Ron would do if he had the rights =).
Joshi
If any die hard Monkey Island fan out there wins the lottery, please send all money to Mr Gilbert so he can buy the rights to the game and make Monkey Island 3a.
megacles
The fact that Lucas Arts thinks the genre is now dead should make it somewhat easier for Gilbert to get the rights back (as in remotely possible )
MannyThreepwood
Would gilbert even want to do another monkey island game? Why didn't he do the 3rd one?
megacles
Lucas Arts wanted the game done in house, and Gilbert had left the company several years before.
Joshi
He's also been quoted as saying (numerouse times, each less subtly than the last) that he would like to do Monkey island 3a, his version, if he could get the rights (and he said that if he won the lottery, he'd be able to do it, which is why i said what I said). Go to Grumpy Gamer to see more.

I hate to smash any dreams here, but with the 100 or so loyal Monkey Island fans left here and there... it would require about 1 million USD each. Probably more. A better solution would be to storm LEC dressed as Star Wars characters, yell loudly that we "are sick and tired of being overused", and cut them all down with lightsabers. Brighteyes
Well MI4 was a mass success even without us diehards. So the market is still out there, but if Lucas reckons he aint gonna bother no more then why don't he just sell the rights?
Joshi
Selling the rights to monkey iusland would be to sell the rights to any future sales of the current games, and lec would end up losing out.
KanSer
Way to be creative. First shot of the first cutscene (or first shot of the monkey island movie, by me of course) would be Guybrush and Elaine at some lawyer's office in the 17th century Caribbean being told that Guybrush cheaped out and got a non-valid marriage licence. Elaine punches him out, and by the time he wakes up to have his next zany adventure the girl is gone, they aren't "married" and she doesn't even have to be part of the plot. Problem solved. lilguybrush
or so loyal Monkey Island fans left here and there... it would require about 1 million USD each. Probably more. C'mon, there's gotta be at least 200 of us. What needs to be done is that Lucas needs to make a succesful film again (this year could be it) and then he'd stop being so money hungry and clutching all of his assets close to him. So, however much it's gonna suck, we should all go and see Star Wars: Episode 3 this summer and try and get Lucas to part with the rights. Either that or everyone can buy a copy of the game and the sudden boost in sales would probably make him want to bring out MI5. So, it's 200 people giving 500,000USD or a boost of 200 going to see Revenge of The Sith (*yuk*) or 200 extra copies of Monkjey Island sold. How can we fail? Joshi
I doubt GLucas has any say in the matter or cares very much for Monkey Island. I mean obviously he could have a say in the matter if he wanted to, but effectively, he'll probably only care about Star Wars and Indy games and the rest can manage themselves, meaning whether he sells the MI rights or not wouldn't really be up to him as he wouldn't care, so going to see Revenge of the Sith a million times won't really help much.
