General Kenobi
Let me start off by saying sorry if I missed this question if it's been asked (I'm sure it has). I am having issues with enabling the cheat console for KOTOR II as I did for KOTOR I. I know I edited the right file in the right spot, but when I load the game and try to use the console nothing happens. I opened the "swkotor2.ini" file and put the enable cheats line under the game options and all. Regardless whether its a saved game or a new one it won't work. Is there some special trick to getting the @#$#@#$ console to work? I'm using Enable Cheats=1 for the code like it did for KOTOR. Please help!!!! Fred Tetra
If you actually have it set up right in the .ini file, it will work. You won't be able to see what you're typing, but it works.
Bobo
ah its invisibibbbbble! its like those damn sith Assassins lol dont worry, its there, just, it wont look like it (why is it invisible? well when Obsidian recolored the UI they didnt recolor it and left it out.) General Kenobi
Can you see the little cursor thingy before you start to type? Or is it completely hidden and you just have to press the ~ key and type the item or whatever totally invisible? I'll just have to USE THE FORCE....lol Thanks I'll try it, I'm sure tons of other people hit this problem too.

Yup, and i even tried replacing the fonts in TSL with KotOR's but no luck I also tried a , "maybe the GUI is overlayed on top of the text" theory, so I alpha'ed the top portion of all of the GUI consoles to make them transparent... no luck either. There's got to be a hidden .ini command to enter, problem is, I have no clue how to strip the game code to find the list of .ini commands... Any takers? You just press the ` key (back single quote; the one with the ~ on top), then type your console command. You don't have to type ~; that would require the shift key, at least on U.S. keyboards. Xcom
Originally posted by Bobo (why is it invisible? well when Obsidian recolored the UI they didnt recolor it and left it out.) I have a guess regarding this. Many scripts for TSL have large number of uncommented debug commands. I think Obsidian was too lazy to comment that out and recompile all scripts, so they just coded that debug strings don't show at all (and that unfortunately also includes console text). There is also a script function ShipBuild() that will return true if the "build" version of the main exe is for shipping. At least I think it's what it does. That implies that this is set somewhere internally.. Maybe it can be changed within ini or some parameter passed to the exe - I don't know. BTW.. Disassembling kotor2.exe didn't reveal any "suspicious" string references.
General Kenobi
Ok guys, I checked everything and was good to go. I opened up a new game and hit the ` key and started typing. It won't take, and just starts doing all the functions that the keys normall do. If its a key that activates stealth it does so. It's like it won't recognize typing in the console. Any suggestions??? General Kenobi
OK This is going out to ALL who read this post. To ANYONE who has had a problem with the Cheats Enabled in KOTOR II let me know. I mean after you have tried everything else that we should do. I opened up the INI file and changed its settings but everytime I try to utilize the interface it simply utilizes the assigned key. If i hit the "H" key it will just switch weapons insead of "doing nothing" like I'm typing hidden text. I personally have completely deleted the program thru add/remove prog, deleted the folder for it, and deleted the registry keys. I'd rather not rebuild my entire machine to see if this would help. I'm almost positive it's nothing I"m doing. The install is unmodded and fresh. and the install is simply the default install location. My pc is a new ThinkCentre from IBM and meets all the requirements so thats cool. I'm just at a loss & refuse to give up on this problem. To everybody else: do you guys just edit the one ini file under the game options and save & load KOTOR II?

Make sure your editing the "swkotor2.ini" and not the "swplayer.ini" file. In "swkotor2.ini" make sure you have this entry: [Game Options] EnableCheats=1 Save your "swkotor.ini" in ANSI format, and make sure it has the .ini and not .txt extension. Once in the game, hit the " ~ " key (no shift key involved, just press the key that has that symbol on it). You won't get any sign this has taken affect so remember to type carefully (everything is invisible). type: "giveitem whatever_cheat_code_you_want" and press ENTER. ie - giveitem g_w_lghtsbr03 that should work... Check your Feedback log in your journal, it should say "whatever" received or something of that nature...

I'm beginning to wonder if i've got the Hungarian version or something...lol I've never had an issue with this problem in KOTOR I. I don't care if I can't see what I'm typing but the key just won't enable the console to begin with. I do LOVE this KOTOR it is MUCH MORE involved. The droids are far more realistic in how they act. I'm not a fan of how you see cutscenes on the ebon hawk of things that happen but you can almost never ask the characters what they were doing. If you walk into a wall at certain points of the game on certain worlds you get "stuck" at the walls edge and won't move. If you've not saved your at a loss. I saved and went back in to find him right there in the same spot stuck again. It looks to me like a "Killer" game that is much better written than the first only to have the last 3 weeks of work HURRIED HURRIED HURRIED!!! I've noticed small stuff all through the game that doesn't make sense or locks the game up. I first thought the problem was random till I did it over and over with other characters. I bet that 1st patch (if they fix all they should) will be a 100 Meg or more...lol One of the funniest oddities is that you have a "med-bay" on the Ebon Hawk but no bench to make supplies with. There should have been one put in the "med" room with the bed along the wall. Also no already in-game containers to store stuff on the ship. OOH well at least T3 moves around like a droid should. Xcom
Occasionally, I have that problem too. starting typing with "i" like for invulnerability will somehow always open inventory screen or something. Therefore, I start with "g" (which seems to always work) , then hit Backspace and type "i"
General Kenobi
I was downloading the new "KILLER" Anakin robe when right there in type was my problem with the console. So to anyone who has this problem: To enable the cheat console in KOTOR II you edit the .ini file and type under "game options" this: EnableCheats=1 N O T Enable Cheats=1 (which was my problem)
