swaaye
I'm a HUGE fan of LucasArts original games, and Dark Forces is definitely one of their finest. I can remember waiting impatiently for the release of it back in '94-95, reading mag previews, and the tidbits in the LucasArts Adventurer magazine they used to include with games. In fact, I figured I could spend the time to scan one of my old mags for the DFMod crew....in case they never got to see one of thse mags! I've also been patiently watching the DFMod develop, and I've been very excited by both the first demo and the screenies shown on the site. Now I've tried the second demo and all I have to say is you guys deserve jobs in the industry. This mod is of the highest quality I've ever seen. It absolutely maintains the atmosphere and feel of the original. The texturing, modeling, and level design is just top notch. And the audio, from sounds to music, is absolutely incredibly redone. I salute all of you working on this mod and wish the best for the future of the project. I know I and every other fan of the game is massively pumped to see this sucker get completed! Note: Apparently you have to be a logged-in forum member to see images.

swaaye
Originally posted by Fracman yeah, lol, where did you dig those out!? Heh, I have a bunch. I bought the games back in the day, and they came with them. I think I may have also had a subscription. Too bad I lost the fake newspaper that came with X-Wing edit: http://lucasarts.vintagegaming.org/index.php?do=game&gameid=16 I have 7,8,9,11,12 I believe. This site even has some PDFs! swaaye
Here's what LucasArts put into Computer Gaming World to pump all the gamers up over Dark Forces.....a very foreboding ad.
Fracman
The only thing i don't understand here... Dark Forces has absolutely nothing to do with The Force... So its a wrong allusion basically. Does anyone knows if LEC really intended to make a DF/JK sequel series from the beginning, or was DF just a single FPS which got sequelled artificially? swaaye
Jedi Knight isn't much like DF really. They basically made Katarn have hidden force powers and made a game around it. I'd say they used the 'Dark Side Got Darker' thing just because they wanted to be sure people KNEW for sure it was a Star Wars game, and 'The Force' is a very popular Star Wars theme. Dark Forces was LEC's first FPS. I doubt they immediately planned a sequel.
swaaye
Continuing the exploration of classic Dark Forces, I now direct your eminent attention towards this interesting article showing changes in DF as it developed!
SlicerDude
Be sure to read the PC Gamer article at the bottom of the page swaaye linked to; it's quite fascinating for several reasons: some interesting stuff that got cut, some that got changed, some insight into the development process, and some interesting predictions/plans for the future of DF and SW movies. Things like the cut Star Destroyer level have been talked about here before, but there was a lot of stuff in the that article that I hadn't heard about before.
