HeavyBreather14
Arrgh!! I have an ATI Radeon 7500LE graphics card and my game crashes right after character creation. I'll have a black screen and I'll hear sounds in the background then the game will crash to my desktop. Here are my specs: [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=4/1/2005 1:41:55 PM SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.00.424 GameInstallLocation=C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR2\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 1 Service Pack=Service Pack 1 Status=Pass [swapFiles] C:\pagefile.sys=192 [CPU] CPUCount=1 CPUSpeed=2193 CPUFamily=15 CPUModel=2 CPUStepping=4 CPUVendor=Intel CPUName= Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.20GHz Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=384 Status=Warning [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=43.36GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=D:\,E:\ Drives=Lite-On LTN486S 48x Max,SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E [Video] Video Card Name=RADEON 7500 SERIES Video Memory=64 Desktop Resolution=1024x768x32 @ 75Hz DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=1.3.4955 WinXP Release OpenGL Vendor=ATI Technologies Inc. stingerhs
best recommendation: get a new graphics card. despite what most people seem to think, TSL is indeed more demanding visual than the first game. however, if you really want to give it a shot trying to make it work, i'll help you out the best i can. first off, you will definately not be able to run the game unless you have at least OpenGL 1.4. you're currently running OpenGL 1.3. the latest version should be included with the Catalyst Drivers, so updating your drivers will probably be a big help. now, if you already have the 5.3 Catalyst drivers, then i hope you saved the installation file because you'll have to re-download it if you deleted it. i'll explain in further detail after you tell me which Catalyst you're using. HeavyBreather14
I am using Catalyst 5.3 but it doesn't work. I've also tried useing the Catalyst 4.3 drivers like some other threads recommended but it also didn't work. I know I probably should get another graphics card but I don't have any money to spare at the moment. P.S. Thanks for helping!
stingerhs
to ensure that you have the correct OpenGL driver, you'll need the installation file for the 5.3 drivers. then, follow the directions that i posted for extracting the OpenGL driver to your kotor2 directory. the info is the optional step in the "ATI Driver Issues" thread. the only difference is that you're using the 5.3 Catalyst drivers instead of the 4.3 drivers. this should fix the problem. if it doesn't, then i have a funny feeling that OpenGL 1.4 isn't supported on Radeon cards older than the Radeon 8500. if that's the case, then you will have to get a new card. HeavyBreather14
I tried what you said to do in the ATI Issues thread and it didn't work. Yes I should get a new card, but if you have any other ideas I'll gladly take them! P.S. Sorry it took me so long to reply.
stingerhs
well, i did a bit of research (as well as contacting an ATI rep) and found out that the Radeon 7500 series does not support OpenGL 1.4. the rep told me that the best thing to do would be to upgrade the video card to at least the Radeon 8500, which supports OpenGL 1.4. he seemed to be somewhat out to make a sale since he was kinda pushing the 9800 Pro, but i really can't blame him. anyways, that bit of info does mean that you will have to get a new video card in order to run the game. i would have suggested trying some third-party drivers, but thats kinda useless since OpenGL 1.4 won't be installed. sorry if that wasn't what you wanted to hear. but, if you want some recommendations for a new card, i'll still be around. HeavyBreather14
*sigh* Ok I guess I'll have to get a new graphics card. I could definitly use some suggestions on what to get. For instance, what's better a nVidia card or a Radeon card? P.S. I agree with tk102 that was beyond the call of duty! Thank you!
stingerhs
well, it largely depends on your budget. low-end cards ($50-$150): ATI cards; recommended: ATI Radeon 9200, 9500 mid-range cards ($151- $275): ATI cards; recommended: ATI Radeon 9600 XT, 9800 Pro/XT high-end cards ($275+): either Nvidia or ATI; recommended: Nvidia GeForce 6800, ATI Radeon X800 of course, if Kotor 1&2 are the only games you're going to be playing, any Nvidia card will run better than a comparable ATI card because the ATI drivers don't work with either one of the games too well. anyways, i hope that helps. I don't intend on playing KOTOR 1&2 all the time (just most of the time;) ) so would it be better to get a Nvidia card or an ATI card?
stingerhs
well, then you can just follow the recomendations i made in the earlier post. those recommendations aren't just for the Kotor series, they're universal recommendations based on comparisons between individual cards of similar designations. (ie, a Radeon 9200 > a GeForce FX5200). so just line up your budget to a category and go for it.
HeavyBreather14
Yay!!!!! I didn't have to get a new graphics card afterall. I just installed the new patch and PRESTO! it worked just as well as the first game. Go patch:cool:! But I'll still take you advice stingerhs because I'll need a graphics card in the future. Thanks for all your help!!!

feathersea
is it possible that someone make a program that will cheat TSL we are playing it under OPENGL 1.4,like startfaqer or what??? I am using the laptop, there is no way I go to update my video card~~~
stingerhs
as far as i'm aware, their is no way to fool TSL into using a different version of OpenGL than 1.4. specifically, your graphics card has to support OpenGL 1.4 in order for the game to run correctly. since you are using a laptop, try using the Omega Drivers. Omega has his drivers configured so that you can use them on laptops (and also have the latest driver updates as well for your card, since his drivers are usually based on the latest versions of the OEM drivers). just follow the links on his site.
