Things left out

Decided to really start pouring through the RC files and found this, a beast from Kashyyyk that never made it in game. The model is there just no texture....makes me wonder if it was friendly or not and why it was left out.

Looks quite massive to.

And still more stuff I've found, a beast called an Orray

I never saw this in game anywhere but its textured which means its either there or left out and was intended to be in the game.

my.php?image=or0ie.jpg

Next is a creature that looks like a mouse, no real name for it,

my.php?image=mouse6gb.jpg

A seeker droid?....never saw this one either.....

my.php?image=seeker8ov.jpg

A swamp Blurrg, another non textured creature, almost like a cross between a fat dolphin and T-rex.

my.php?image=swamp6in.jpg

Yoda.... you seek Yoda.

Here he is in all his glory. Textured model, we only saw the hologram of him so makes me really wonder where this was intended to go.

my.php?image=yoda8pr.jpg

A galoomp? Another non-textured model

no clue where this was intended for either.

Who is moose?

There. I'll post more stuff as I find it.

The seeker droid is in the game, you can find some in the ghost ship campaing. As for Yoda, he had to be textured, I don't think there was anything else they wanted to do with him besides the hologram message. The orray is also in the game, only I haven't seen one alive. You can find some carcasses on the early Kashyyyk levels, Trandos are even rosting one on their campfire.

The Seeker droid can also be spotted on the start of the Geonosis Level. Flying around the first group of fighting clone troopers.... surveying or... something. Also if you poke around the sound files, you can find some marked for an Orray, Beast, and the Galoomp. In addition, while poking through the Squad Members Vocie Files, I found this; among the group of 'Spotted _____ ' Voice files. (Spotted SBD, Deka, Droid, Trando etc.) I found: SpottedBeast. Playing it has that character say:

Fixer: "Got a visual on..... something."

Sev: "What the.."

Scorch: "What... is that!"

Where is all this? I can't make any sense of UnrealEd.

Neither can I.... I just found the sounds that it popped up at the start. Though I was able to find that model browser. Though I kind of just pressed alot off buttons to see what would come up.

When you open unrealed you'll see a popup window behind that you'll see your texture view window. That window will allow you to look at almost anything in the RC game files, sounds, fx runners, player models and animations, ect..ect.

Click on the animations tab and then click on the open file icon(little yellow folder) you can then select an animation file you want to look at. For the sake of me explaining this open the clone animation file.

You should see a red clone on your screen. He probably won't be that big and you'll want to zoom in on him. Holding your left mouse button and moving left and right will rotate your view left and right, holding the left mouse button in and moving forward or back will allow you to move forwards and backwards (zoom in and out).

Holding your right mouse button will allow you to view left and right as well. It also allows you to look up and down instead of moving forwards and backwards.

Holding both the right and left mouse buttons and moving up and down will allow you to elevate or sink your view. Moving left or right while holding both mouse buttons will allow you to strafe the model your viewing.

Each tab on the top of the "texture" window will allow you to open the corresponding file type, textures, animations, staticmeshes, ect. ect.

This should make it a little easier for you to look around at the files and their contents.

Hope it helps.

see thats what the name for it was and I was thinking, "ok, must be due to it being a small "rodent" type creature."

Go figure. Shows how much I pay attention.

I found some pickups that I don't remember being in the game.

The first is a mp Elite Beam weapon, although its possible this was just included so mapmakers could use it.

The interesting ones are RemoteDroid and RestrainingBolt. You pick them up using f, but I have no idea how you use them. Its possible they were cut from the game.

Hmmm, I'd guess that the restraining bolt would have been intended for use on enemy droids, possibly to make them fight along side of you(probably worked like a grenade toss it and if it lands on a droid that droid targets other droids as enemies) If thats how it worked it doesn't seem like it would be terribly a great help since the droids seem quite weak and easy to kill although, it would cause for some confusion for the attacking droids and probably make it even easier for your squad to take them out. The remote droid could have been used for recon to send into areas you thought may have been filled with enemies.

Both good finds. I'll have to check these out when I get home.

The remote droid, may have been based off of the Republic Commando book: Hard Contact. In it the Commandos had these little hovering recon droids that were fairly small that they would send out to locate the enemies position, as well as their own squad mates. Probably would have only been a singleplayer thing though, I cant see it being of much use in MP.

Well, you don't have Force Seeing in this game, so you could make a spy drone type thing (like they had in Battlefront, only better).

It would be interesting to see the Elite Beam weapon in MP. I wonder if they nixed it on account of it's power? Map designers could bear this in mind when placing it around... (if it is)

The seeker droid is displayed in the RotS visual dictionary.

ARAKYD PROWLER 1000

Ancestor of the Arakyd probe droid, the seeker droid excels in surveillance. At the bottom of a sinkhole on Utapau, Obi-Wan escapes detection when two seekers are eaten by a nos monster.

Ok did up a quick crap lvl to see if the items(beam weapon, recon droid, and restraining bolt) my.php?image=lfdes9et.jpg could be picked up, they indeed can and register when you pick them up. The bolt, and droid don't show up as a weapon or as a grenade so I'm thinking some coding has to be done to make them active. Soooooooo now I'n the process of trying to figure out how to do that. BUT good news the beam weapon can be used in mp.

Hopefully this is good news. You have to wonder why it was not put into any maps made by the devs. I think the most likely explanation is, as Kurgan suggested, that there was some kind of balance issue. I fear that eager mappers might throw off game balance, because they want to be able to use this.

So can a well placed rocket, a well placed conc rifle shot, a well placed grenade, etc. Yet, these things are in the game, but the Elite Beam Weapon isn't? Why? There must be a reason it isnt in any maps. The most logical reason seems to be balance. I don't see why it would be unbalanced/unbalanceable (at least in a reasonable amount of time), and yet...

I suppose we will see how it all works out when maps start coming out with this in them.
