Is there a way to change the starting planet?

Ok I'm trying to change the order that things happen in the Knights of the old Republic and I'm wondering if anyone can help out.

I want to make it so that after you escape the Endar Spire at the beginning of the game you wake up on Dantooine instead of Taris. How should I go about this?

Thanks

I don't think there's any mod out there for this either. (strains to recall a Padawan mod from Talchia or Revan Incarnate mod from Lil' Jawa). On the surface, you could use Darth333's Party Manager armband to add Bastila, Carth, Mission, Zaalbar, and T3M4 then warp-cheat to Dantooine.

But under the surface, there may be some global variables that would be skipped.

Thanks for the response guys.

I kind of wanted to do it myself though, not really a mod request as much as I was wondering how to add this to my own mods. Maybe for an eventual Total Conversion.

I know it's something that get's triggerd when you get in the escape pod on the Endar Spire, but I don't know how to change it. Anyone know?

Personally I think this mod isn't out of your league by a long shot. I'm not the best modder and I pulled off a similar stunt with KotOR II so you'll be fine.

Global variables aren't *that* big a deal though. You can just play through from Taris -> Dantooine and then copy all of those. It's not elegant but it'd probably work.

I am personally quite fond of Taris so I think the cool thing to do would be to make a mod that ships you straight to Dantooine but lets you go back to Taris as one of the planets you can visit. Make it a 'go to Taris and pick up Mission, Zaalbar, T3 and Canderous" quest (since there isn't a Star Map to make it work visiting). That would be a very substantial mod and I think it'd be pretty cool. Running around Taris as a Jedi without doing anything outrageous.

SilverSurfer, if you want a good starting point you might want to think about downloading my Skip Peragus mod, since it is basically the KotOR II version of the exact same thing you are trying to make, and all of the scripting and all that is going to be extremely similar.

The next thing you should look into is opening up KotOR Tool and check out KotOR I -> RIMs -> Modules -> end_m01ab_s.rim -> Dialog

Inside that there is the file "end_pod.dlg" which contains your first clue. When you say "use the escape pod" it fires the script "k_pend_pod01", which you will have to Override. That one dumps you on Taris, you need to change it to dump you on Dantooine, add Carth et al. and go from there.

I do plan on keeping Taris so you can go back later in the game, but as a Jedi. You've really helped me get started, thanks for the great info!

The problem with this if you copy the global variables from a save you will never be able to return to Taris also remember Taris is not a selectable planet from the galaxy map which means you must warp there. The variables tell the game that Taris is no longer a valid location to take the Ebon Hawk too. Also there are many variable that are tied into the various subplots that if certain things don't happen at certain times on Taris due create backlash effects and glitches later in the game. Having looked into this in the past for others and even tested it myself I can say your actually effecting alot of the pivotal variables that are set in the game.

You could change taris into basicly a new module, like a new planet and add it to the game that way, I'm not sure how but I know it can be done. aslo there is no were for the edon hawk to land except daviks estate, wich wouldn't seem right, plus then there is no way out of daviks estate. there for you would have a lot of work just make ing taris a planet you could do anything on once you got there.

oh, yes. that makes more sense, but it would be kinda cool if you could get it to be at daviks estate. you could make it like when you landed someone raided your ship and took it to their secret base :D and you are hiding out in the apartment till you get it back.
