Problems with 2 Reskins

I'm trying to change two current player character options for use in the single player game - which I'm going to play yet again :p - for KotOR: TSL . . . mostly because I don't want the Dakrside Wrinkles. However, it's also because I want to make a couple interesting looking characters that better reflect my play style (it's an RPG after all).

Problem: My plans are being foiled!

What is it that could possibly be happening? Well these are the heads I'm generally just compeltely recoloring:

PFHA05

PFHA05D1

PFHA05D2

PMHH01

PMHH01D1

PMHH01D2

'If' I can figure out what the bodies are I'll figure a way to do those too - but that's later not now, because I'ms trangely stuck.

The Darkside transitions are comming along just fine, they show up in game and look just like I wanted.

But the starting look that I'm trying to implement causes both heads I'm recoloring to completely disapear . . . now I have nothing against the headless horseman/woman look - but needless to say . . . this is really bugging me. o.O;

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

EDIT: I'm not sure if it's relivant, but I just noticed the recolors that do work when I drag the file onto my desktop, they show sort of a B&W image like a low quality thumbnail . . . however the ones that don't work show a sor tof default Icon . . . that has a maroon strip labeling it TGA with the grayscale photosho eye bellow it (6.0) . . .

Maybe that will help someone tell me how I'm messing up. :p

The files with the maroon strip (Photoshop)... is it a layered targa? Well, I mean a .tga that still has it's layers? See if the image needs to be flattened... and make sure to save at 32bit... that might help... Also, since the heads are showing up invisible, double-check your alpha channel to make sure it isn't solid black (invisible) :)

Step by step . . .

-

They are saved at 32 bits/pixel.

They are flattened.

-

That probably means the alpha channel is what I've got wrong, but I think I must have a different set up . . . when I use a transparency for a back it shows up as white and gray checkers . . . or am I just showing how little I know about photoshop?

This must be it, most of what I'm doing is messing around at random to learn things, which would explain why only some of them are having this problem . . .

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, I think I have a lot to learn about messing with these things though. :):p

The above is what you're talking about right? o.O . . . yeah still bumping around in the dark after trying to look up more information of alpha channels. :\

Does anyone that mods out there speak english . . . preferably bad english like me? :p

 .. hehehe

I'll try ;)

In the screenshot you posted, the last channel.. is it named "Alpha 1"? (without quotes)

I can't tell with the floating bar over it. However, I did notice it's all black. Click that Channel and then use your paintbrush, select white as your color... then paint the entire channel at 100% white...

Save... then see if that helps :)

Yep, the texture gets more and more transparent the blacker the mask is. All white indicates that the texture should be completely solid.
