wildbill
Hi. I trying to comply with the Defenders Wrist Console mod and it asks the below questions: For starters, make sure you have a folder named 'override' in your kotor 2 directory. - This modification requires a modified spells.2da file to work, If you have a spells.2da file please place it in your 'override' folder and not a subfolder. YES: c:\games\kotor2\override\spells.2da NO!: c:\games\kotor2\override\modification\spells.2da TSL Patcher will then be able to patch your own spells.2da file instead of a new one. My further questions: 1.) I did not have a pre-installed "override" folder so I made my own. Is this okay to do? 2.) I cannot find a "spells.2da" file under the data folder. Where can it be? Why isn't it there? I assume I have and can use spells in the game. 3.) Can KOTOR Tools open the bif folders? I think it can. I cannot otherwise open the .bif files to look for the spells files. Hope somebody can help with these confusing aspects of this mod. The author should say what to do if you don't have a required file or folder. Thanks, Bill K. stingerhs
1. you have to make one for yourself. really, its not too difficult. 2. you won't see it because you obviously don't have any previous mods installed. otherwise, the only way to view the spells.2da file is to use Fred Tetra's Kotor Tool. 3. you'll have to open the *.bif files straight from the Kotor Tool. make sure you have the Microsoft DotNet plugin installed before you try to run KT. 4. you don't need a previous spells.2da file in your newly created Override folder in order for the mod to function. the TSLpatcher utility is included with this particular mod in case you already have a modified spells.2da file in your Override folder. in that case, the TSLpatcher utility would append or 'patch' the existing spells.2da file to include the new lines necessary for the mod to function. finally, this thread is getting moved to Holowan since this deals with modifying. hope that helps. In fact, for TSL it's required to use any type of mod 2) If you currently aren't using any mods that use a spells.2da, then don't worry about it. The Installer will create one for you. The only reason it says to move your exisiting spells.2da into override is so the Patcher can append it (only if you're using a mod that is already using one)... 3) Yes. KotOR Tool can open bif folders (as well as tons of other stuff) but as stated in #2, if you're not using a mod that already uses a spells.2da file, don't worry about having to find one. The Patcher will create it for you
