SomeDude
Well i just got a new pc a few days ago and installed kotor 2.. i was hoping that it would work alot better than my old GeForce FX 5600. these are my new pcs specs: Pentium 4 - 3 GHz 1 GB RAM Radeon 9250 Pro AGP (512 mb, 400 MHz) with 5.8 ati catalyst drivers 80 gb hard drive split into two (C and D) Windows XP with service pack 2 =============================== Now these are my old pcs specs: Pentium 4 - 1.5 GHz 256 mb RAM GeForce FX5600 (256 mb) with 60.something forceware drivers 35 gb hard drive Windows XP ============================ So, on my old pc kotor 2 ran fairly ok, i could turn on any of the settings in graphics, i use 2 AA antialiasing, 800 x 600 res, and frame buffer effects were on as well as grass and some other stuff.. well, on my new pc i cant even turn on anti aliasing and frame buffer effects and the game runs only a bit smoother.. now i know my pc can run kotor 2 smoothly with all those effects turned on cause i can run Far Cry fairly smoothly with most the settings on high.. Here are some of the problems i get: first thing i noticed when i played kotor 2 on this pc was that when you look through a camera the screen is not blue, it looks just like normal sight, this is what i mean: http://www.freepgs.com/psychomc516/kotor2stuff/camera.JPG another is when kreia talks to you through her thoughts or whatever, there are no waves around the sides of the screen: http://www.freepgs.com/psychomc516/kotor2stuff/kreiathought.JPG Stealth field... WTF! http://www.freepgs.com/psychomc516/kotor2stuff/wtfstealth.JPG well that pretty much explains it i guess, also when i run hardware scan it says i need new drivers and that nvidia cards require detonator 45.23 drivers: http://www.freepgs.com/psychomc516/kotor2stuff/hardwarescan.JPG and one other thing, on all the pcs ive played kotor 2 on (mine: GeForce FX 5600, my friend's: GeForce FX 5200 and my new one: Radeon 9250) there is a line that goes down the middle of Atton's and Carth's forehead, it increases the further away they are from you.. dont really know how to explain it so yeah, atton: http://www.freepgs.com/psychomc516/kotor2stuff/attonline.JPG carth: http://www.freepgs.com/psychomc516/kotor2stuff/carthline.JPG same thing also happens to bastila but the line goes down her chin.. though the lines down peoples faces never happened in kotor 1. Anyone know how to fix any of these probs? i know the post is too long sorry bout that..

Killwithhonor
did you turn off aa?and did you turn off your firewall or anti virus? do this, shut down all outgoing programs, shutdown firewalls spyware protection, all that stuff, then play it, try that, but there minor and u should have no problem with the game shutting down or anything, i have a radeon 9200 and it runs beautifully on mine, also 1.9ghz, it shouldnt be a problem for u
Det. Bart Lasiter
I think that most if not all of those problems are because you have Frame Buffer Effects off, which encompasses the stealth, and speed blur, as for the others I don't know, but they may well be. lukeiamyourdad
He can't turn on the Frame Buffer effects. Your 9250 card is not a very common card, it is sure to encounter problems. As a matter of facts, KotOR has these issues with almost all pre-9600 cards. There's a solution. You could flash your video card's BIOS in order to make your computer believe your card is actually a 9600. Other then that, you're screwed. Personally, I would never buy a pre-9600 card these days, no matter how cheap it is.
stingerhs
personally, i'd chuck the Radeon onto Ebay and replace it with the old GeForce FX5600. i've used both cards, and the performance difference is in double digits in terms of framerate. that and the GeForce is going to cause a lot less issues with the game than the Radeon will. overall, the GeForce FX5600 is by far the better card between the two. if you take this route, make sure you download the latest ForceWare drivers (but don't attempt to install them) before you take out the Radeon. then, when you have the GeForce in, then all you have to do is double-click on the file and there you go: installation is complete. hope that helps.
