Video Card Paranoia

Recommended Posts

I seem to have no luck with electronics. I almost always have to send something back for a replacement before it'll work properly. I'm looking at a 6600GT to replace my 9800pro (I've had no luck with it working). Heres my system Specs

1.7 ghz Athlon XP 2100+ Processor

Soyo K7VME Motherboard with VIA KM400 Chipset

768 mb of ddr ram

60 gig harddrive

350 watt powersupply

Will this work well with my system?

Hey RoxStar... is the $159.00 your price range?

Nvidia makes a 6600 with 256mb memory for about $30 more if you're willing to spend the extra cash.

Also, I think you can get a 6600 at Best Buy (though not sure if it's the GT model) for a little less, and it should have a mail-in-rebate.

However, to answer your question, yeah, it should work... though the 350watt Power Supply is the minimum required to run the card.

Ha, I'm not paying for the card. I'm calling newegg and am going to yell at them for 30$ in shipping back the card twice and the original 130 price tag for 160 store credit. I'm sick of this crappy card. The gpu keeps blowing out on me, and newegg "doesn't carry" the retail version anymore, so they sent me refurbished. I think that Rosewill should makesure that the refurbished card is fixed before they send it off again.

Can't blame ya' for that ;)

Good luck with the credit then.. but if you think you might get $160 out of them, definitely do a search on their site.

I did one using the guides of 256mb, AGP, under $160 and got THIS. May have to do some "weeding", but if you can get a 256mb card in your range, I'd go for it ;)

get a new processor...what are u using ur pc for (games, image/video editing, just word/internet/etc., etc.) cuz if your using it for games and/or image/video editing i would get at least 2.4ghz processor before getting a new video card...

Psh, I'm not buying a new proc already. i'll get a 3ghz athlon 64 when I upgrade.

iknow, his proccessor is fine for a new video card but it would be wise to get a new processor first...i have a radeon 9550 and a 2.4 ghz processor and im fine...he has a 9800 pro, but has a 1.7 ghz processor...i'd worry bout my processor first...

This upgrade is my last computer upgrade probably. I plan on fleeing into console gaming if microsoft and sony didn't lie shamelessly about their system specs.
