Hosting Audio Files

mp3's are fine. (i advise encoding at 192kbps, of course ;))

just found out from someone who uses it regularly that soundclick isn't free. =\

i have my music hosted privately on my friend's webspace (which also isn't free, but is incredibly cheap).

it depends what you need (obviously if it's just one file, paying is ridiculous, but if you plan on putting a lot of music up then you may want to consider your options) and how familiar you are with hosting, domains, etc...overall soundclick would probably be the easiest (or least complicated) thing for you to do because you wouldn't have to do very much in the way of administration.

i can help you with domain registration and point you towards good, fast, cheap hosting if you wanted to go that route, but my knowledge of that stuff doesn't go below surface-level and a basic knowledge of html.

no, you just find someone who has hosting and doesn't/wouldn't mind the bandwidth or storage space you'd be costing them. (which, relatively, is almost nothing, if they have decent hosting) i'd offer to host for you, but i'm already leeching.

my friend's package is 4gb of storage and 40gb of bandwidth/month (with download rates of 500+ k/s) for $5, to put this into perspective.

On further thought...Doc, have you looked into what your ISP offers with your internet package? I know Verizon supplies a couple megs of webspace to everyone with DSL (for example), so you may want to check to see if you don't already have free hosting that you might be able to use for this purpose (if you aren't planning on uploading an album's worth of material)
