StarRaven Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Alright. So I've been playing TSL for a while, and naturally wanted to install it on the new computer. It installed fine, but it simply won't start. All I get is a bit of nothing happening, followed by the Windows "Send error report" dialog. Since it won't tell me anything, I don't know what to do with it. Hopefully someone here knows. Thanks in advance for any help [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=12/7/2005 2:42:37 AM SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.10.427 GameInstallLocation=C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR2\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=Service Pack 2 Status=Pass [swapFiles] C:\pagefile.sys=1536 [CPU] CPUCount=1 CPUSpeed=2128 CPUFamily=6 CPUModel=13 CPUStepping=8 CPUVendor=Intel CPUName= Intel® Pentium® M processor 2.13GHz Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=1024 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=52.03GB D: (FAT32), UNICODE=4.60GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=E:\ Drives=QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082 [Video] Video Card Name=NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Go Video Memory=256 Desktop Resolution=1680x1050x32 @ 59Hz DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=2.0.0 OpenGL Vendor=NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL Renderer=GeForce Go 6800/PCI/SSE2 NVidia Driver=6.14.10.7822 Vid Card Status=Pass Vid Card Driver Status=Pass GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass [Audio] Sound Card Name=Conexant AC-Link Audio Status=Pass ;Game Options from swkotor2.ini [Display Options] FullScreen=1 Disable Movies=0 Disable Intro Movies=0 Sort Modules=1 Width=640 Height=480 BitsPerPixels=32 RefreshRate=60 [sound Options] Number 3D Voices=32 Number 2D Voices=32 2D3D Bias=1.00 EAX=0 Sound Init=0 Disable Sound=0 Force Software=0 [Graphics Options] EnableHardwareMouse=1 FullScreen=1 RefreshRate=60 Width=800 Height=600 Emitters=1 Anisotropy=1 Frame Buffer=1 Soft Shadows=0 Brightness=57 V-Sync=0 Texture Quality=2 Anti Aliasing=0 [Game Options] TooltipDelay Sec=1 Disable Movies=0 [config] firstrun=0
The Source Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 "Video Card Name=NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Go" A few months ago, I bought the previous version of this graphics card. Is this version backwards compatible with DirectX 9.0?
StarRaven Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 Sorry I've not answered - I lost the game discs for a while, so didn't so much point in it. I'm not sure about backwards compatibility, but I know that DirectX works on this machine. Call of Duty 2 plays flawlessly, and it requires DirectX 9.0c.
stingerhs Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 hmm, for some reason laptops have some wierd issues when running the game. i'd try using the latest Omega Drivers. they're designed to work better than the original Forceware Drivers that you have to get from your laptop's manufacturer. you can get them here.
StarRaven Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 Nope. Crashed (BSOD, then shutdown) on installation. Tried three times. Well, that'll teach me about third party drivers. I've been looking through their forum, but haven't anything useful, yet. I suppose I'll go over and post. Thanks for the try. I don't suppose you know where to get some drivers? nVidia doesn't seem to have any software for this card. The downloads from nVidia (all that I've tried) are incompatible with my hardware, and so refuse to install. One from Gateway that installs (the others BSOD) seems to have no effect. This stretched resolution is less than optimal. I'd've skipped nVidia if I'd known that I'd be unable to find updates. (Even before this, I found nothing.)
Det. Bart Lasiter Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 ^^^^ That's because laptops require special drivers due to the built-in screen (different input). The only place to get drivers for it is the manufacturer, it's not the Omega Drivers.
StarRaven Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 Ah, so that's why they need different drivers. No one ever bothers to say why with computers. I'd know a lot more than I do if everyone did that. Especially since it's just a few words extra. Anyways, got it working again. Apparently drivers are model specific, not just manufacturer specific - something else that's never quite been said, and so they wonder why I don't know. Back to square one, I geuss. So, any ideas on making KOTOR work?
Det. Bart Lasiter Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Try increasing your swapfile to 2048 MB or more. That's the only thing I can think of, as your swapfile is kind of low for 1 Gb of physical memory. Just go to Control Panel->Advanced->Performance Settings->Advanced->Virtual Memory Settings and don't forget to click 'Set'
