Vruki Salet
This doesn't come up for me much since my favorite saber doesn't even allow saberthrows but I have checked it out and wonder, how do I get the saber to come back through the air boomarang style like in normal JKA? I don't mean getting it back after it's crashed to the ground I mean preventing it from ever hitting the ground. What's the trick?
razorace
Boomarang when you let go off saber throw or when it's hit something? I believe the return start code is in the thrown saber think function. Searching for the BUTTON_SABERTHROW, should allow you to find where it's controlled in the Enhanced code. Vruki Salet
Oh you mean all the normal throw return behavior is off in OJP? I thought I just didn't know some new controls to use. You know in base if you miss something with throw the saber comes back to you, right? Why did you turn that off?
razorace
Yeah, I rewrote a lot of it. I changed it because it simply wasn't realistic to have a yo-yo of death whenever you have saber throw.
JRHockney*
I want a yo-yo of death....as long as it glows in the dark.
Lathain Valtiel
The yo-yo of death reigns supreme... especially when you drag people into it, hehe.
Vruki Salet
I want the yo-yo back, mainly because it was in the movies. It doesn't have to be of death, it could just be a yo-yo of booboos. I think both types should be avaible. Maybe the returning kind could be only for skill level 3, or 3 and 2 with some restrictions or extra something needed for 2.
razorace
It was in the movies? Wha?
Vruki Salet
Isn't it? I know Yoda goes and pulls his saber out if the trooper's chest but doesn't Vader's saber come back to him when he throws it to cut down the platform Luke's on? I could be mistaken but I thought it did. Actually I wouldn't care if it was off when it came back as long as it didn't clatter to the floor every time after skill level 1. It makes the thrower seem clumsy imho.
razorace
From what I remember, Vader slowly walked down the steps and uses the Force to retrieve his saber from the floor but it's a bit off camera.
Vruki Salet
I'll take your word for it. My memory is probably confused by seeing the boomerang throw so much in JKA and KOTOR. Excessive video gaming is making me lose my grip on artificial reality! Maybe I'll tone down the ping-pang-clang noise of the dropped saber to give it a little subtlety. razorace
Toning down the bouncing noise is a interesting idea. I might do that myself.
Sushi_CW
Is there any difference between saber throw skill levels at the moment? It doesn't seem to be making any difference... Anyway, I wouldn't mind a bit more control over the saber, at least at higher levels. I'm thinking something like this: Level 1: How it is now. Slow, straight throw. Level 2: Straight throw, but goes faster. Level 3: You can steer the saber as it goes out, but when you let go of the throw button it drops instead of coming back lit. Or some variation on that... a faster throw and being able to steer the saber would both contribute to making it actually useful sometimes! I imagine it could be used as a good way to nail low FP/DP runners. Also, it is possible to lose your saber down a cliff and never be able to get it back until you die. Is that intentional? razorace
I beleive the player's saber throw skill level affects only how far the saber can be thrown. As for the reason why I made it so the players can't steer their thrown sabers, it's because it's simply not movie realistic. We only ever see Jedi/Sith move things in a straight line/arc whenever they move something with the Force in combat. As for dropped sabers, I think you need to have a clear path between the player and the dropped saber for it to be able to return. If you have a more specific example, I can check it out. Sushi_CW
I have stood at the edge of a cliff, where I could see my saber glowing yellow far below, and not been able to even budge it. And you're right, it may not be movie realistic, but I think it might be valuable enough to the gameplay to consider anyway.
Kurgan
We're talking about enhanced here I take it? Anyway, the most famous EU example of steering lightsabers is Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn where Luke tosses his lightsaber at a group of foes, steering the spinning blade to each noghri cutting him in half and then returning it to his hand. That was written before any of the JK games let you toss your saber. In the movies Yoda and Vader are the only ones who ever throw their ignited sabers and both appear to retrieve them manually (or Vader if he does retrieve his with the force, does so out of camera view) if ignited or with the force if unignited. razorace
I have stood at the edge of a cliff, where I could see my saber glowing yellow far below, and not been able to even budge it. Which map? I'll have to check it out. We're talking about enhanced here I take it? Yes, as far as I know. In the movies Yoda and Vader are the only ones who ever throw their ignited sabers and both appear to retrieve them manually (or Vader if he does retrieve his with the force, does so out of camera view) if ignited or with the force if unignited. That's what I've been shooting for. FYI, Vader does use the Force to get his saber back. It's technically out of the shot, but it's obvious that Vader didn't bend over to pick his saber up. Sushi_CW
If I remember correctly, the last time I saw this was on the Chandrilla map in coop mode. I was almost at the end, at the lowest point you reach on the map. I lost my saber over the edge (due to a mishap, I believe) and even though I could see it glowing on the invisible floor of the rift, I couldn't get it back. RBitG
You've already heard this Razor, but this is for everyine else, what about the ability to control your sabers flight pattern with Rank 3? That would make ST atleast moderately useful, but not as dreadfully spammy as the yo-yo of death.
razorace
Actually someone convinced me that it would be possible in the movie sense. I'll look into changing that.
