Guest Rogue 9
I'm of drafting age, but were our country endangered I would join of my own accord, I want to be a pilot but because of my skills I would probably end up in field Communications or on a Nuke Boat somewhere. FUNNIEST THING I HAVE READ ALL DAY. Besides, you take all the crap anyother countries military could have, and either we have something better, or that country can't afford to build it anyways. Isn't that the textbook definition of a politician? If you don't think G.W.B. hasn't done (and will continue to do) this exact same thing, then you are only deluding yourself! This is what politics is all about: Saying or doing whatever it takes to get elected, and then doing the same thing to stay there. While in office it is your only job to make the people who put you there happy enough to let you stay. Gore is a tool! (Take that to mean whatever you want) Bush is a tool too! All politicians are. Both political parties are completely and totally full of tools. End of my rant.
Guest Rogue 9
Bush is doinf what he is supposed to do...rebuild American Prestige from the blows it took during the clinton years, reminding other countries that we can and will destroy them if they screw with us OR our Allies. to top it all off working out a tax break for all us hardworking americans, and increasing pay and support for our military. edlib
Ah! Spoken like a true partisan! (Heh heh) OK, my take: Clinton wasn't the anti-christ some would have us believe. He was a far, FAR less than average president, but he IS the world's ultimate politician according to the definition in my previous post. He will say or do ANYTHING to ANYBODY to get, and then maintain, his position of power. And America, knowing this, voted him in twice nonetheless. Go figure. He also had the excellent fortune of being in office while the economy was really good, and that counts for a LOT! Just ask Bush Senior. National Prestige will always take a back seat to the average voter's pocketbook. Slick Willy is a colossal sleazebag, but a very VERY lucky one. And Dubya had better jump-start the American enonomy and fast, or all the national prestige in the world won't save him next time round. Riding the country's good-feeling wave from Desert Storm failed to help his pop. Mr. Joe Average-American will trade a fleet's worth of National Pride for the chance to buy a new Benz. But that's just my opinion.

However, knowing the reality of the workings of our government I will be very surprised if A) this tax cut plan ever manages to pass in anything resembling it's current form, and B) when it does the benefits for the average tax payer will be on that scale. I hope for MY sake it does, but I'm not going to hold my breath on this one.
Guest Rogue 9
you get back a percentage of what you pay, the more you pay the more you get, under his plan I'll get back alot more than $500 Bucks.
Guest Rogue 9
and the republicans which control at least half of both houses need only convince a few democrats to join them.
edlib
Ah, but that's the rub, isn't it? The Dems who feel that this last election was stolen from them and will do anything to hinder this process. Like I said, if this plan manages to pass at all I will be astonished if it retains it's current form. I'm not optimistic about that.
edlib
And as for what kind of money I'll save on my taxes, well I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not at all optimistic about that either. I REALLY hope I'm wrong though. The GOP doesn't have a great history of reaching out and helping "the little guy". They are usually quick to give a break to thier buddies in Big Business and leave the little guy to fend for himself. Now's when we find out if all that "Compassionate Consevative" rhetoric was just a line of bull or not. Cross my fingers.
Guest Rogue 9
the Reps do care for the "little guy", the only time taxes have been raised by that much by the reps is for military use, and I don't have a problem with that.
Nute Gunray
I know a great number of people in the military. Most of them were people I considered friends and the few I didn't consider friends I at least would speak with and one is my cousin (there's one marine, three navy, two army, and one in the air force). If they want to raise my taxes a slight bit so they can be paid more, I don't care. If they want to raise my taxes to give it to some lazy ass slob that lost his job after a steel mill closed 20 years ago and never got another job, no. (that's why PA went to Gore. There's like a million, literally a MILLION, unemployed steelworkers in Pittsburgh that NEVER GOT ANOTHER JOB after all the mills closed in the early 80s and have been living off the government since then.) Guest Rogue 9
Welfare should have a 4 year limit unless the recipient has been rendered unable to work in a government related accident.
