Dantooine Crash in KotOR1

I suppose, it doesn't really bode well that my first post here is for help, but. I need it. Every time I get to Dantooine for the first time (after Taris) the game crashes immediately upon the completion of the loading gauge. The screen goes black, and then returns to my usual resolution and displays the "Knights of the Old Republic has encountered an error and needs to close", etc. etc. message. And automatically closes it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game repeatedly. I admit that my computer falls short of the video and opengl specs required, but I played through the game successfully once, and all I needed to do was deactivate videos (which is still done). I have no modpacks installed, and I've updated to the most recent version. Any tips? Thanks.

well, there are a couple of things you can try to get it working again. although you may not have a laptop, there are still some absolutely fantastic tips in this thread. of course, you probably don't need the Omega Drivers, but the rest of the tips should help you get everything going again. ;)

Ok, here we go.

OS: Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2

CPU: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.00GHz

RAM: 256MB

HD: C: (NTFS), UNICODE 18.46 GB free

Video: Intel ® 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller 64MB

Audio: SigmaTel C-Major Audio

OpenGL: Intel - 1.3.0 - Build 4.14.10.3889

DirectX: DirectX(9.0+) (4.09.00.0904)

Your suggestions haven't fixed the problem, though they have made my computer run faster (for which I thank you), and I've been able to hear the Dantooine music start up before the crash.

Actually, it randomly started working. Only Gods know why, but a lot of glitches in this game seem to work that way; if I let it alone for a while, it works again. For instance, I've got this annoying thing with my savegames where it'll sometimes freeze a quarter of the way into loading. Or, on the graphics card I'm now randomly switching between it sometimes starts running so slowly as to make it unplayable, because characters will start randomly jumping around the map, but I can use the vertex buffer effects, which quite frankly are worth the trouble in my eyes. Anyway, thanks for all the help, it certainly has made my computer run a lot better, and the game is smoother now anyway, in most cases.
