Walkmesh faces

Recommended Posts

Ladies, Gentlemen, and assorted spongecakes:

On the subject of the "Faces" section of the .WOK file, these are definitely to do with the actual area where you can and can't walk. The "multimaterial" list at the top of a decompiled .WOK file has no numbers, but each line is referenced later as a number along side the loads of numbers you see next to them under "faces".

These numbers, which I'm going to call "walk-type" numbers are always, it seems, on the ends of lines, and these lines always end "1 0 0 0 [walk-type number]". The walk-type number for "non-walk" is 7.

I tried a little experiment with 701KOR editing the .WOK's for it, and ended up running on the spot at the spawn-point up to my armpits in the ground. I'm not sure why, but it's probably 'cos I accidentally either modified a number I shouldn't have (like "Obscuring" - not sure what this MM is for), or because I deleted something by accident, or because these files are extremely sensitive and need to be modified in several places.

I searched to see if anyone else had tried this, and it seemed not (though I'm sure the inimitable Fred has tried this before - kudos! :) ). So, err, yes. I just thought this might be vaguely interesting/useful, and at the very least might allow some greater understanding of the .WOK file.
