goattail
Just started playing Kotor today and am having problems with the ringed apartment levels on Tarsis. When in the ringed sections if I try to move the character will just run in straight line before warping and then getting stuck in one spot. Even by swithcing characters cannot control where Im going because the just keep running into the wall before warping a little further along wall and then just gets stuck in a running position on the spot. Very frustrating and cannot navigate the apartment rings. Seems to work fine everywhere else. Used the update on the setup screen so presume it is fully patched. The Doctor
I had the same problem. It's a graphics problem, there's nothing wrong with the game or your computer. To fix it, lower the graphics settings. Eliminate shadows and grass, etc. That should help. Also, try moving the camera so that you're viewing your character from the side. This reduces the demand on the graphics, and makes things run smoother.

goattail
Used scan hardware and all specs exceed the recommended but turned all graphics and resolution down to absolute minimum anyway and it dosnt help at all. Usualy have the graphics up pretty high and game runs smoothly. Its only certain areas on each world that cause problems. On Taris its the apartment areas, Dantooine inside the Sandral estate, Tatooine inside all bulidings including the Sandpeople enclave and on Manon its inside any rooms within the Sith base, passages are fine. In any of these areas the game turns into an unplayable slide show. Characters when controled will spin in circles and warp in random directions. Only way to navigate is by clickng on doors, containers and people to get them to move in right generall direction. When eventually manage to leave these areas the problem persists until reboot the game. Its frustrating as hell when critical mission areas are affected. It wouldnt seem to be a problem with memory or specs as game runs fine everywhere else including smaller and larger more detailed areas then some of those causing problems and it makes no difference wether Im playing at 800x600 and low detail or at high detail and high resolutions. Specs are: P4 1.8 ghz 768mb RAM 7+ Gb free Windows XP NVidia GeForce FX5500 128mb Intel AC97 audio controller DirectX 9c
Samnmax221
You do have a lower end pentuim 4, the most you could upgrade to would be a P4 3.4 (assuming your a socket 478), but that would a cost about $300 for a new processor and cooler so a simpler sulution could be found. Is your computer bogged down at the moment?
goattail
I have tried using the task manager to ensure every last programme is shut down but it makes no difference wether nothing is running in the background or if I have Zone Alarm, anti virus and large downloads running in the background. Certain places lag out and everywhere else runs fine no matter the graphics setting or background cpu workload. I have a socket 478 but figure Im as well to get as much use from this set up as I can and then get a shiny new AMD system when the time comes (i.e. I have lots of money to spare). Just as well Im no where near finishing Morrowind, Oblivion would be a nightmare on this setup if it ran at all.
