Commander 598 Posted July 18, 2001 Share Posted July 18, 2001 Mobile Suit Gundam was the start of the The One Year War and heres part of the story: The story begins in the fall of UC 0079. The ongoing war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon has settled into a six-month stalemate. The Federation has taken advantage of this time to develop its own set of mobile suit prototypes, which have been undergoing final testing inside a Federation research colony at Side 7. Now the mobile suit carrier White Base has arrived at Side 7 to pick up the prototypes and transport them to Earth. Side 7 Unknown to the Federation, the White Base has been pursued by a Zeon cruiser. The pursuing ship's captain, Char Aznable, sends a reconnaissance squad of Zaku mobile suits into the colony. Spying the Federation's prototype mobile suits, the squad leader impulsively decides to destroy them on the spot, and two Zakus enter the colony's interior and begin laying waste to the prototypes and their Federal Forces defenders. 15-year-old civilian Amuro Ray commandeers one of the prototype mobile suits - the RX-78 Gundam. With the Gundam's manual in his lap, he quickly destroys both Zakus. --------------------------------------------- And a few of the suites: ZakuII Commander's Type RX-78-2 Gundam Some of you Already know this and some don't. Created in 1979, the animation quality ain't exactly the best and those who are used to Wing will get turned off by the designs in MSG. But bear with it. It's an excellent series with a great story. If you get past the ridiculous premise and equally ridiculous Gundam designs (the exceptions being the Shining and the Master Gundams), it's acutally a pretty good series. Nob Akimoto Posted July 20, 2001 Share Posted July 20, 2001 I don't post a whole lot here anymore, but when it comes to something as sacred as the original Gundam then I must. First off I don't see how ANYONE could think Wing designs look better than the Original the only and the absolutely kick ass RX-78-2.(Then again I suppose most/all Americans have never seen the glory of it in full 3D on a game screen, or it's revisions.) The storyline is much more concrete in the original than it is in GW(people actually die.) If you must compare, I suppose First Gundam is the equivilant of "The Original Series" of Star Trek, while Wing is like Voyager. The former isn't nearly as flashy as the latter, but is much much better with better stories, breaking more ground, and setting a standard. Of course I think Zeta is the best series.
