ßeeve
Hi, I'm new here, and just started my first game. When I got my lightsaber I wasn't very impressed with the glows. I was wondering how I could improve these glows by re-skinning the lightsaber colors. I was wondering if anyone knows how, or if it is even possible this way. And help would be apprecitated! -ßeeve
DarthMaul v.1/2
Welcome Beeve! Golly Beeve (hehe! ), I think you should probably check the list of tutorials and tools in the "sticky" section at the top of the page. There are several tutorials (mainly by the great Achilles) listed that give detailed instructions on what to do to MOD lightsabers. If you are not familiar with MODding, or are just wanting to hurry and play the game with better looking sabers, try checking out the lightsaber sections for KotOR and TSL at http://www.pcgamemods.com - there are SEVERAL different sabers and blade textures MODs available for down load. I'd go get USM(Ultimate Saber MOD)- by ChAiNz.2da and other great MODders, if you don't already have it. Then I'd recommend 6 Heart of the Force sabers -by Midknight - this MOD has really cool deeper blade colors - there are more, just look around at pcgm. ...may the Force be with you! - DM.

DarthMaul v.1/2
Hey Beeve! This tutorial is actually by T7Nowhere: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=143805 Also, if you are serious about MODding, Darkkender and Halowan Labs have started 'MODders Basic Training' - a guided 'class' to help us nOOb MODders to learn the ins-and-outs. Darkkender (a great MODder ) will be teaching the 'class'. ALL types of MODs will be covered, including lightsabers. I am already 'enrolled' - and I would suggest it to you as well! http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=164099 Hope this helped, and I hope to see you at 'Halowan U'! - DM.

Darkkender
I made new glows from scratch with photoshop? Does that answer your question? I believe what Prime was refering to was what file did you alter? Are you talking about the saber color texture file or were you talking about something else when you say that you changed the "Glows" I could just be misinterperting Prime's question but I don't think so. Shem
I believe what Prime was refering to was what file did you alter?I didn't alter any file. I made the glows from stratch. Meaning I started out with nothing and made a solid circle in photoshop and had it centered. Did a color shade. Then blured it. And added a core in the middle of it. The size of the circle and how much to blur it took many, many tests. To profect the color shade also took many tests. I would use movie references to compare shade colors and how it would glow. Like how wide is the glow and how well can you see through the glow. I also noticed that it depended on the scene of the movies on how the look of the lightsaber was. That included if the tip was round or pointed in a scene (with doesn't apply to the game since the model is set, just using it as an example of what people thought it should look like, who did special effects in the Prequel movies). It just shows that different people who worked on the special effects had their own point of view. I just used references from the the most common looks in general for references to match it up the best I could. As for colors that were not in the movie, I just speculated it. I also did polls in this forum in January and had the users vote on different shades to see which ones they liked best. Basically before I did my project, I studied the glows and shades of color to get an idea where to start. To get the best results, I knew I would have to start from scratch. Darkkender
so what you canged was the saber blade textures. That is the question that Prime was trying to point out. And wether made from scratch or by taking the default ones and erasing and retexturing the same result is yielded. By the question of which file did you alter it was referencing did you change the model files or a texture file. That was from what it seemed Prime was asking and I was trying to clarify. Since the primary poster had no idea how to do this and was still confused by the tutorials I believe the intention of Prime's question to you was so for clarity and so that the new modder would know what to change. @ ßeeve -- The files you want to tackle to change the Blade Texture color/"Glow" all start with "W_lsaber????.tga" or very close to it. I didn't change anything from the original artwork made by the game makers. It was just .tga files I made from stratch. As for altering the game textures, I found that not worth it in this case. The results won't turn out as well as I would want them to. I learned that from my 1.0 version I released. Here are some other compare pics. Shem
Yep. Good! Here maybe the best compare pics because the sabers are held closer to the exact closeness, instead of having one blade upclose and the other not.
