Who does rule the EaW roost?

Many players have said to me that the Rebels are too powerful on land AND in space. other players have said the same about the Empire.

Having spent a lot of time playing as both - I feel that, early on the Empire does in fact have the upper hand but its all down to how you use them at this stage(naturally).

With the campaign map, all starting positions are the same, and as such you get to know which planets are easy to take and free of Pirates - thus making your way rapidly towards Hoth.

The Rebel fleet is powerless to stop them early on - unless you get lucky in space combat. Turning the attention to land. The rebels - early on - do have the upper hand here - but only if Han, Chewie & Ben are faced.

These 3 together can be totally lethal and wipe out a strong base of operations. Even if Vader is around, the quick building of a bacta tank and luring Vader in can mean that Ben finally beats Vader.

It makes for an interesting debate - especially, as I am guessing that most of you have all played as the Empire but the Rebels can most certainly deliver a shock to the Galactic Empire by using a swift raid to take out planets - thus removing space stations!

i prefere the emps but i would say the opposite of what you just said about the imps having a good start i wold say it was the other way around especiallly on campane maps where they can stop land battles complety with the DS

but the rebles are constntly stronger on land because of the artillery and the at-at being completly useless aganst plex troopers

Well, on land Rebs are definitely better, especially once they get MPTL.

In space though, Empire does have the upperhand especially early on. And w/o the need to buy bombers are definitely a plus.

The whole "you can't see the planets" thing is not really a problem, since you can pretty much remember the pirate positions in the game anyways, and pirates don't move around.

PS: yes it is stupid to spread out your forces for the "pirate special event" in GC. Just sell your cheapest space station on some unguarded back water world and let the pirate move in, and cince they don't have a space station you can wipe them off quick at anytime you like.

Strange debate. I believe the Rebels in space have a hard time early on. You have to buy your bombers and fighters (which aren't really that cheap) and your capital ships are pretty lousy. On land however, the presence of the plex trooper is certainly a plus as opposed to the Empire's inability at effectively and quickly take down rebel vehicles.

As for late game, I'm not too sure. I think the rebels still have an advantaged on land but in space it's a bit more even. Just slightly more even though.

Hmm, I was actually going to say the opposite of DMUK. Empire can't compete as easily early space maps because the X-Wings are too fast and too powerful, easily taking any asteroid mining bases. Wasting time and money buying a cruiser will only get its butt kicked once a Neb-B comes along, and a Neb-B can easily handle an Acc. Going from there the rebels have more money and better capital ships until later, and by the later game the Rebs have more space population anyway so the Imps slightly-better capital ships don't come in near as handy.

That, at least, has been my experience in space battles. I can't claim to be an exhaustive authority on the matter, however, because it's been quite some time since I've played EaW online...or at all, actually.

I actually think that the imperials do have the advantage in the beginning in space. Their Tartan Patrol cruisers can make pretty quick work of the EXPENSIVE rebel fighters. Until the rebels can get Nebulon-B Frigates and Corellian Gunships to beat the imp cruisers, the Rebels have a hard time.

The Rebels also need more microing as taking care of those expensive squadrons is quite a pain. Of course, I realize that the Empire also has to "take care" of their fighters but since they're basically free, I don't feel too bad about throwing them into the fight :)

Agree.

Assault on Hoth is easy with airspeeders taking out most buildings. I must say the empire have better land heros. Its rediculous that the empire have a small shield which covers the generator and a few buildings. I think the empire needs a air unit for land battles as it can be quite fustrating.

I cant remember the map name, but the one with 3/4 mines in the center should be easy for rebels to capture depending on who is playing.

In space battles the empire needs something to combat the A-Wing although rarely used. Perhaps the TIE Phantom may do this. It will be interesting with the B-Wing since it has an ion cannon. A fleet of B-Wings could easily take out capitol ships. Now that would be unfair.

I would say though the game is balanced it all depends on the map and where the base is placed. As I have mentioned before a random map generator would be good.
