Heroes of Might & Magic V: Impressions, etc.

Ahto, the place where you can talk about pretty much anything. That's why I thought - Heroes V. I got it three days ago and overall I think it's a good game. Do any of you have it and if you do, what are your impressions?

The last one I played was v3. Other than improved graphics and not always looking from a top-down wide perspective (2D vs. 3D) when traversing the map, what else is different/improved in 5?

Well, Heroes V has more of a Heroes III feel than of Heroes IV. Some things that were better in the third part were kept, some from the fourth were modified, like the hero actually being involved in the fighting - now you can't move him around like in Heroes IV, but your hero can attack any enemy unit on the battlefield. The hero now has some special abilities, for example the demon hero from the Heroes V campaign could be taught an ability that allows him to eat the corpses of the dead units and thus restore mana.

The only bad thing in the game, in my opinion, is that there isn't a single hero from the previous parts, every hero is new (No more Sandro the Necromancer, my personal favourite from Heroes III )

Sandro was my favorite too.

I haven't played Heroes IV or V, but I've played the first three. Do you think I should get V? Is it worth dropping 50 bucks for it? Should I get Heroes IV before I get V? I'm kind of interested now, since I haven't played Heroes for a while.

I'm not sure you'll like Heroes IV, since a lot of things were changed in it (mostly for the worse), but Heroes V is definitely much better and if you have the money for it, then why not?

Here's a little info on what happened to my favourite character - Sandro, the Necromancer.

 

This is mentioned in the Necropolis campaign of Heroes V:

 

 

Sandro was, apparently, killed by an army of mages lead by an Archmage named Cyrus. Sandro's Necropolis was under siege and eventually the mages stormed the city and killed Sandro in a very cowardly manner.
