JediMasterEd
what are your thoughts of mechanical vehicles haveing the ability of running over people(infantry)?
Havoc Stryphe
That depends, Most of them are repulsorlift vehicles, and would cause no damage. ie Qui-Gon Jinn in TPM, the Droid carrier rolled right over him and Jar Jar without a scratch on the both of them. The unfortunate problem of Star Wars RTS, Repulsorlifts, no crushing damage! Need more tracked vehicles! More blood, guts, and ...... I digress..... Paragon_Leon
Lucasarts have always avoided visible bloodshed in the movies, and even an FPS like Jedi Knight.. I don't think you'll see that happening. It's not in the AOK-engine as well, so.. if it would be done, i doubt you'd be able to see a pulp of any kind. maybe they could run over droids.. that doesn't bring an ethical problem. Havoc Stryphe
hey Kvan, you posted at the same time and probably missed my post, it explains why alot of the tanks and such will unfortunately not be able to.
JediMasterEd
then that would take the fun away listening to infantry being crushed under the feet of an At-At/At-St/At-Pt.

But don't the imps have AT-AT's and the like(ie Chicken Walkers, Juggernauts)? So they could STEP on them at least
Lord JayVizIon
they should, but i don't think they will. i don't remember where i read this, but i think tanks can cause damage to units, but not necessarily run over them. that would be cool, though, adding a C&C element to this game......... Guest Dorsk8199
You are correct Lord JayVizIon. I knew I had read the same thing somewhere. So I quote "Note that troopers in Battlegrounds cannot be overrun by armored vehicles, though they will still be vulnerable to them. " This is from the gamespot preview. Direct link is http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/previews/0,10869,2798825-3,00.html Sorry to spoil the fun.
Havoc Stryphe
I didn't think so.... Man, I hate being right!
Paragon_Leon
me too ! :D that's company policy allright. if you want a game to have mass appeal, you need to make barriers as low as possible. Red Alert got altered for the German army because they didn't want tanks to run over people. so they changed the people into 'cyborgs'. yuk. Lord JayVizIon
thanks for backing me up, dorsk. that's cool. now that i think about it, i don't want to have to keep making troops just b/c they were pancaked. that would waste a lot of resources...... Paragon_Leon
with the AOK-engine, you could get such a steady resources-stream that that really wouldn't matter. i'll leave the precise number-comparison-lists to the real fanatics once the game is here.. Guest Tie Guy
I just wanted to add two things. 1: JKII will have blood in it. You can see it quite well on some of the newer screens and movies. I think they are at gamespot. 2: There are treaded tanksin th game, and it is plausible that people could be run over, but, i guess they won't be. Paragon_Leon
heyhey, TIE-guy ! welcome back.. yes, JK2 will have blood, but also a higher rating. and that's what's the issue here.
Lord JayVizIon
dang, blood, that's off the hook.....

Paragon_Leon
yup. maybe the alien species will get a bit more gory deaths. after all, only the aliens got chopped up in the Star Wars movies (remember Obi Wan dislodging that alien's arm with his saber in the cantina ?) Guest Tie Guy
Yeah, but a cuple million humans or so were blasted into tiny pieces on the Death Stars and SSD.

JediMasterEd
course not! the body parts would fry with the person! running over people should be allowed because how else are you going to make a path through infantry with just only vehicles in record time? Guest Kvan
I remember a certain Aunt and Uncle getting BBQ'ed so whats the big deal about running over people? I guess I'll never understand you people....

Paragon_Leon
the thing with 'running over people' is that there are certain gore-limits to certain games. you can't expect a game to fit certain marketplaces if you include that kind of stuff. Lucasarts knows that like no other.
