The Source Posted January 4, 2007 Share Posted January 4, 2007 Whose story are you impressed by? Designer? Film? TV? Buisness? Etc... Over the past few days, I have been doing some research. My main goal is to see how other Graphic Designers made it into various industries. Since I will be graduating soon, I thought it would be wise to do some research. Even though some of the pople I am going to list are not designers, they have impressed and inspired me to shoot higher. Amber Benson - She played 'Tara' on 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. What caught me off guard about her is how she is breaking into film. I am not sure if many people know this, but Benson is a mini-entrepreneur. She not only does 'guest appearances' on tv shows, but she is also a writter, director, producer, and actor. I also found out she created a handful of independant films. She also worked in production. Brad Pitt - Brad Pitt graduated with a degree in Graphic Design, and then went into acting almost accidentally. Pitt started in an unpopular place, and then made it big on his own steam. Brad Pitt is still a Graphic Design entrepreneur, so you can see my connection. I think what impresses me the most is that they are ordinary people. Both of them are entrepreneurs, and they have other interests that contributes to their success. Whose story are you impressed by? Lance Henriksen. His journey into fame has always fascinated the hell outta me. He ran away from home and left school when he was 12. When he was 16, he tried to be an actor but got told to get lost. So for years he travelled the world, then came back a man. He was illiterate until the age of thirty and learned to read by studying movie scripts. As well as being a well-known although slightly typecast actor he is also an accomplished painter and potter and he has a wife and two kids. Negative Sun Posted January 4, 2007 Share Posted January 4, 2007 Both of them are quite interesting...If you want my advice: Don't shoot too high, the fall might hurt more than you think, just set yourself some realistic goals you want to achieve and work towards them, if things don't go as you plan, always make sure you have some sort of backup, in other words don't put all your eggs in one basket... Lol... I live in the United States. Eventually, Spanish and Japanese will replace the English language. Lol... When it came to my Amber Banson example, I was looking at where she started and where she ended up. She didn't even start off as an actress. Personally, I know what she went through. I started off with a $8.00 per hour job in my field, and I ended up working a few days a week. Grrr... At least that part is over. When I finish up college, I will be starting at Junior Level in Graphic Design, so I don't have to go backwards. Lol... Most of my success came from just being in the right spot at the right time. Hardwork, dedication, and a vision. As long as I keep my feet grounded, I should be all right in my quest. (That sounded less Lord of the Rings in my head.) Lol... The only issue I have with Amber is that she is slightly too liberal. I think she wrote, directed, and produced four independant films. It is quite interesting that she one day said, "Hey. Buffy is over. I want to do what I like." She seems too liberal in some cases.
