floundericious
Hey all, I just purchased a Dell XPS 410 desktop and wanted to try out the 256MB nVIDIA card on my KOTOR game (prev computer was a P4 with 32MB INTEGRATED GRAPHICS!!! WHOOOAAAA)... I had two problems and then got it to work great: 1) Securerom emulator error I know this is an issue for KOTOR, but it seemed odd...and all the Dell knowledgebase can tell you is "get updated drivers" Here's the rub...I had the latest drivers...when I uninstalled KOTOR and then reinstalled it WITHOUT updating to v 1.3 (just playing the game right off the disks), I don't get the securerom error! 2) SLOW running I know this has ALSO been an issue (I saw the sticky), but I'm running on a Core 2 Duo E6300 based system... so it didn't all seem to apply. I DID find one useful thing in there. I pulled up the launcher, ctrl+alt+del to the task manager, went to "processes" found "launcher" and changed its affinity to CPU 1 only (dechecked CPU 0)... Suddenly the game runs like it's a natural fit! I still do NOT get why installing the 1.3 patch makes the securerom error pop up, but at least my game is going and (goggle eyed) I just realized how uh...well textured...the models are in game
Darth333
Maybe this could explain the Securom error: http://yodashelpdesk.lucasarts.com/faq.asp?sid=032540050605083026028058&pid=1387&pnm=Star%20Wars%A9:%20Knights%20of%20the%20Old%20Republic%20%A9&seid=3674&pos=Windows%20XP&top=Error%20Messages&rid=21430 Edit: it also seems that simply restarting the PC can fix some securom errors. floundericious
Thanks Darth, I tried restarting and rebooting and various things... I figure I'll play through and, if I hit a snag, generate a report file and send it to securerom.com... it still boggles my mind how upgrading to v 1.3 seems to be what causes this problem!? stingerhs
it could've been that the 1.3 patch added something to the disk checks to ensure that the disk is still in the drive during gameplay. i've seen that either added in or shipped in with a lot of recent game titles. its usually not a biggie, but there are games in which the disk checks hinders performance. just thought i'd throw that one in.
