REDJOHNNYMIKE
Well, I don't know if anyone is interested or not, but recently the local gaming center I frequent hosted the first inaugural "Ohio Gamejam". With the goal of creating as many playable (and hopefully groundbreaking) games in a time limit of 24 hours, you either fall into doing something that's an easy replica of everything else, or come up with something completely different and hope it's fun. It's definitely a good learning experience, our team actually started several different games before finally deciding to do the "Brows" because the night was halfway over, and we'd resorted to trying to games in which we attack the other player with the head of Chuck Norris (which I still maintain was pure awesomeness), so I learned that you've got to be flexible in game design because it doesn't always turn out perfect the first time. I had the sense to buy a 2liter of Dew, and space it out with several hours of water between chugs, whereas my teammate who shall remain nameless (*cough*awesomejoshende*cough*)had 4 redbulls and then crashed, so having to force yourself to not give up is good experience to have too I guess. It always helps if you try and keep your sense of humor going, you'll have a lot less conflict with your team over small details if you're doing it for fun. You WILL eventually run into a "crunchtime" when you'll have to try finish up everything and work out the bugs in as little time as possible. If you have any interest in game design or the field in general you should definitely attend one at some point. Here's the official website where you can download the games and try them out for free (vote for your favorite!)... http://ohiogamejam.org/ edit: Contrary to the description of my team's game, I am not actually an Ohio University Student
Gargoyle King
If it's in the US, i'm afraid i'll have to give it a miss - i'm in the UK! Definately sounds intersting though.
REDJOHNNYMIKE
Well, we did have people come from as far as Baltimore, but you can always just download the games and try and get some enjoyment from them (or be really critical, which I personally would prefer XP )
