ODF File Editing

I want to make a little mod that makes the pistol more damaging. So I downloaded the mod tools, skimmed through a bit of the Tutorials. What it is saying is something about making a whole dang world. Well I was looking through these .ODF files that seem to be all the games info, like guns and vehicles and whatnot. And I found the file for the pistol com_weap_pistol_ord. well thats all I need to edit, and I found the command for damage, so how do I implement that into my game? I think I might have to make a whole world, but please tell me it is easier than that...

Well, I havent done anything yet. I have the .odf file that I need, the one that is under assets/sides or whatever. but I dont know how to put that in my game. I dont see any .odf files anywhere in the real game files to edit, so I need to know how to do this. Oh boy now I am confusing myself... So can some educated being out there just tell me in steps how to make the pistol do more damage, lol I know yall probably hate seeing questions like that.. sorry

Ok, I know what my problem is now. When you munge your own world, know that little drop down box that says sides? Well by default the only one in there is tur. tur is also in BF2_ModTools/assets/sides/tur. So sides folder called common is in the same directory. BF2_ModTools/assets/sides/Common. And I need to edit a file in that Common folder and move it into my mod folder to be munged. But when I move it in there, it wont show up under sides. But if I add any other file to my data_ABC/sides folder, it does show up!!! So I need to know how to edit that common folder and munge it with my mod.

I have a similiar problem. What you need to do is modify the *ord.odf file which defines the actual laser bolt of the pistol. You may have to add a line along the lines of "maxdamage = X" where X is the ammount of damage you want the weapon to do.

Then I am guessing you have to invoke munge seperately and get it to pack all of the files into the *.lvl files (hundreds of megabytes) and then replace the default files.

Remember that this is a guess. I have tried and failed repeatedly to actually compile "side mods".
