chris99
This is a theory about Olly and the Butcher's relationship. The bunny massacre in particular. The butcher orders a bunch of rabbits for his business. Puts them in hutches, looks after them until food time, don't want poorly fed rabbits as meat. Olly gets the wrong idea from this, thinks their pets. Gets attached to bunnies. Time for bunnies to be butchered and displayed. The butcher prepares them, WITHOUT REALISING THAT OLLY HAD BEFRIENDED THEM. As a result, the butcher would have no knowledge of Olly's trauma at the sudden knowledge of his 'pet's' death. (Or as I like to say, Bunnies go in, Meat comes out ) If Olly Snr had realised this little issue, he may have done something to cushion the blow of seeing his 'friends' massacred (Such as getting him a real, easy to look after pet). He most likely was a better father than Olly gave him credit for, but never had a chance to prove it as he didn't know it was necessary. In conclusion I think that Olly had similar father issues to Raz, in that he simply misunderstood his actions. Discuss? Any other ideas about Olly's dad? BTW: I searched but couldn't find any olly theory threads, so if one exists, please point it out. I've been a substantial lurker.
DylanMay
I think it's interesting how all the characters in Psychonauts seem to have daddy issues. I mean, we have Raz, who thinks his father hates psychics. We have Olly, who sees his father as a cold-hearted killer. We have Sasha, who ran away from home because of the shame he experienced over reading his father's mind. It's sort of interesting how there aren't as many "mom" issues (excluding Sasha). Freud and Jung were a lot more focused on maternal relationships, but Psychonauts doesn't touch on any of these at all; all the characters only refer to their fathers, not mother's. Well, I guess you have Gloria... still, there's a lot of heavy emphasis on paternal relationships. (ex: Lili's father is the Grand Head of Psychonauts, why not her mother?) Just think that's imteresting. I wonder if it was on purpose, or if Tim just hates his dad... subconsciously, of course.
Smon
Tim just hates his dad... subconsciously, of course. Seems possible, he named Bobby aftter an old bully by accident.
chris99
This is an interesting discussion I've sparked. Wasn't expecting a turn to the games inspiration. ^_^. Quite a nice surprise. Bunnies go in Meat comes out That's what Olly's mental butcher shop is all about!
martmeister
Yeah, I liked that theory of Oly's dad. If his dad was as a cold-hearted killer as the image in his head, I doubt Oly would've had the parental support to try to join the military. Freud was jealous of his father. DylanMay
A Freudian slip is when you say one thing, but mean your mother.
