DrPhil2501
Although I'm not quite sure whether this is the appropriate place (although, on the other hand, it's technically a game) is anybody familiar with the program RPG Maker? Particully the 2003 version?
SilentScope001
I am quite familar with RPG Maker 95, a really great game engine which I heard is better than RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003. It is a really good program, with lots of files and such. It is illegal to download the English transalations however, and therefore, I would encourage you NOT to find this program. I also know a bit about SIM Rpg Maker (basically a tactical sim a la FFT), but it is also illegal to download, and hence, don't find it. Still, if the mechanics hasn't changed... You can lay down tiles and create 2d maps, and then use switches as a easy way to "program" how the game would be run. You can edit stats for characters, both player and NPCs. RPG Maker 95 also have some pre-generated monsters for you to lay out so that your player can encounter them. I heard that RPG Maker 2003 doesn't have any pre-generated content, which may partially be the reason why I like RPG Maker 95.
Dagobahn Eagle
XP is the best one, particularly because it supports large tilesets as well as MP3 sound and 24-bit bitmap graphics. It also adds new features, such as a scripting program that lets you design the menu layouts and such yourself. You can download a 30 days long trial for free, after which you have to buy it. It's a splendid program, and I hope to buy it one day. Pity it's not in stores.
DrPhil2501
Do you know if there are anyways to modify RPG Maker? You know, add more tiles, characters, etc... Basically adding more to your selection?

It's alright, good graphics yes but 1 there is no side-view battle system and you can't play movies anymore ingame (making 24-bit graphics in my point of view kinda redundant). Also maps are much harder to create than in it's predecessors (XP did however have the scripting function, which puts more creative ability into your games); the allround winner has to be RM2K3 in my opinion. I thought i'd never see a thread on RPG Tsukuru ever on a lucasforums, as its quite hard to come by a community of rpg makers these days as interest has dwindled a lot over the past few years. If your into RPG Tsukuru then you should head over to http://www.gamingw.net for tutorials, user-made games (some of them being unbeleivable, such as "Naufrager EX). Also, head over to http://www.ptei.tk to download two RPG Maker games that focus on the fact that the world of pokemon has gone crazy and you must kill the now uber-violent pokemon, they are both very fun games and very well made! DrPhil2501
^ yeah? I might check them out. I'm still trying to get used to 2003 (I to think its the best), so those tutorials could prove useful for me. Anyway, anybody know any good sites where I get new tile sets, characters, objects. Sorry, I have a game in mind I want to make, but the utilities I currently have kinda' suck. So I'm looking for something different...
Dagobahn Eagle
Do you know if there are anyways to modify RPG Maker? You know, add more tiles, characters, etc... Basically adding more to your selection?Yes. Import files from BMP to whatever file system RPG Maker uses. There's a command for it up there in one of the drop-down menus. I recommend the game Phylomorphis (think that's the name). It's very well-made, although it's also incredibly hard.
