HELP! with petrified forest maze!

I'm stuck on this puzzle and its driving me insane!

I gave up after 2 days and read various walkthroughs.

I followed instructions to first stick the signpost in the middle then stick it wherever it points.

The thing is, after i stick it in the middle and then stick it at wherever it points, it keeps pointing at the same opposite sides over and over again.

and and and i've been running Manny around and around the same two opposite sides.

What am i doing wrong?

I've already solved the puzzle with the tree and pumps and the demon beavers.

Ah yes, the classic forest maze.

 

The puzzle becomes incredibly simple once you basically understand the trick.

 

When the sign points at something, try imagining that it's pointing at an invisible object somewhere in the field rather than at one of the tunnels. Now let's imagine that this invisible object likes to have signs put on top of it.

I think i was running from one end to the other, so i tried just running short distances and voila!

if one takes a really thorough look, one will see that the sign is placed on a dark spot

...there are quite a few "dark spots" in that area.
