Ok you all know this forum has it's ups and downs.

At the moment I think it's getting a bit staale.

So as a mod of a few forums myself and know what a mod should be doing.

I'd just like to ak why your not doing anything to cheers this place up and make it a better environment?

Although I do think Murta's doing a great job. Especially the upload site. Good find.I use it.

So come on mods explain yourself. And don'y delete this I have forum members as witness to this topic.

Hmm, I'm not sure really. I did notice that the forums were a bit dead just lately. Maybe they've lost interest, got tied up with other things, or have had computer troubles. Zero's on holiday at the moment, apparently and NFGB's probably playing Max Payne

I think you and I have different opinions on what moderators should be doing.

You seem to think that it is the moderator's job to keep (or get) people interested in the forums. Personally, I think that's the job of everyone on the forums.

So how does a moderator differ from a regular member?

The moderator(s) keep the forums from turning into chaos.

To do so, the moderator has to do certain things, including (but not limited to) the things listed below:

  • Instruct new members on some of the basics specific to these forums.
  • Monitor posted messages to make sure they are in the proper place.
  • Edit or remove content deemed not suitable for the forums.
  • Look out for suspicious characters (e.g. flamers, trolls, etc.) and suggest to Administrators for banning.

The definition of moderator will also change depending on the type of forum. On this forum, none of the messages are "moderated" as they are on moderated lists and newsgroups, so the moderators there have different jobs. It basically boils down to what additional privileges are given to a moderator. From there, you can easily see the moderator's job function. So, let's look at the additional features available to the moderators at EscapeMI.com (hopefully I didn't forget anything):

  • Ability to edit anyone's message.
  • Ability to delete messages/threads.
  • Ability to close threads.
  • Ability to move threads.
  • Ability to check user IPs.

In other words, half the time you won't even know that we're doing our jobs. ...but that doesn't mean that we're not.

Now, do moderators have to post as much as all the other members who like to chat it up with oneline posts? Certainly not. They just have to make sure that nothing gets out of hand.

As for me, personally... Some of you may notice that I used to post a lot more when I first came to this forum, and then I started to post much, much less.

The reason was simple: Most of the time, I post in response to what others have posted. If I think what needs to be said regarding the topic has not been said, I will go ahead and post. If, OTOH, someone has already posted what I wanted to say, I generally don't post. (So, for instance, when Grannen came on board, my number of posts in the Clues & Hints forum dwindled down to next to nil.)

And now, since the game has been out for so long, all of the regulars have already finished the game, while there are few newcomers to the game, so the number of posts are, quite obviously, going to decrease. Compound that with the previous paragraph, and you'll see why I hardly post.

Well, you got me back ( for a while ). I'm afraid that due to school I won't have much time to spend here...

And it's a shame, as the year's beginning and now I'd have time - and everybody's on some friggin' vacation or taking a rest!

ah well.

Well I completely dissagree with you!

A mods job is to yes keep the forum from Chaos.

But also keep the forum running happily. Not just sit there and wait for chaos!

Write stuff that'll keep people here and make sme fun while your about it!
