Prologue

Aquilaris

It was a normal, peaceful night for everyone living inside of an underwater city. As usual, citizens went by attending their business and personal matters.

The life inside of the city was as normally average like any other normal city. Stores, apartments and various other places were all connected via man hole tubes and elevators.

The outside was absolutely stunning. Coral reefs, rock formations, elegant fish and beautiful lagoons surrounded the city. The natural marvel of it all, truly magnified the magnificents of what was called; Reef City.

The Security Administrator looked over the shoulders of his crewmen, who were busying themselves in front of computers and terminals inside of the Security Sector; which monitors the inside and outside of Reef City. Suddenly, the sound of an alarm rose from a nearby terminal, where Karden, the new employee on his very first day, governed. The administrator walked over to him, to see what all the commotion was about.

The flat-screen monitor of the terminal was flashing over a radar system of the exterior of Reef City. “What have we got, Karden?” the Administrator barked.

Karden look over his shoulder to find his boss looking at him. “Ah… sir? Something has crashed over at Section 8, just near the Coral Reefs.” Karden answered, his expression of being worried spread across his face. He looked back at his terminal and punched a few keys into his keyboard to get a visual. “Looks like an Escape Pod, of some sort…”

The administrator comprehended what Karden said. “An escape pod? Any survivors?”

“I-I cant say… communications are unavailable. We can’t be accurate of the chances of any survivors…”

The administrator rubbed his tired, sore eyes. He sighed and looked back up at the rookie. “Send both a rescue team to Section 8. If there are any survivors, I want them interrogated…”

The escape pod was brought in through the barrier separating the water and air away from each other, and into the Hangar. Accompanying the pod was the rescue team, all of which entered a large Hanger.

Security and medical teams surrounded the escape pod, while the rescue team was trying to open the hatch of the escape pod. After minutes of using various tools; welding torches that looked liked miniature Lightsabers, they finally got it open.

At first, all everybody could see was darkness inside of the pod. But once flashlights illuminated the darkness, everything was clear enough to see; the ceiling was drooling with water, and soaked the cushions of the seats, where survivors were supposidly to sit.

The medical team stormed in first, in hopes to find some survivors; only one. In the cockpit was what looked to be of a human man, who was sitting on the pilot’s seat. The Medical team examined the state of the man, and it was when they first glanced at the head was what made they're jaws drop in both amazement, confusion and horror.

“My dear god…” one of them finally muttered.

Unable to identify it in the darkness, something was attached to the poor man’s face; it was some kind of large parasite with four bony finger-like legs at each end; all attached around the victim's head. A long tail was wrapped around the man’s neck and appeared to be continuingly graspening. Below the fingers, were what appeared to be a set of breathing lungs. The medics had to guess that whatever this thing was, was feeding its victim oxygen.

“Bring him into the Medical Facility, but have him quarantined. I want to find out what that thing is before we start determining on how to remove it…”

Many hours later in the medical facility, Scientists, Doctors and Medical Droids were surrounding the patient. There they studied the parasitic organism;which after an hour of failed attempts of detaching it from the man’s face, eventually felll off dead. The man it had imprisoned revealed a deathly, pale face with short brown hair and bags underneath his eyes, with desgnated marks the facehugger made.

But while he lay still unconscious, the Scientists insisted upon examining this Parasitic Organism, while the doctors monitored the status of their “visitor”. Using X-Rays, they found some kind of developing embryo within the body. Curious as to know its natural life cycle, and completely unabable to fully identify it, they let it remain within its host for further study of its stages. Days had passed, and he had finally awoken.

He slowly opened his eyes, the bright light hurled into his sight. Once his eyes adjusted, he found himself in a bed, where blankets where tightened around himself. Carefully examining the room, his bed was attached to the wall next to him where health monitors were attached. Looking across the room was a large window, which viewed a Medical Facility of some sort with patients waiting on chairs for their appointments for doctors.

And next to that window was a auto-sliding door, which a man in a white tunic, had just entered. The doctor was tall and balding, and age seemed to catch up with him. In his hand was holding a large datapad. The doctor looked up and smiled at his patient.

“Well, its nice to see you have finally awoken.” He greeted and chuckled. “How are you feeling?”

When the survivor opened his mouth, he felt the dry and slight painfulness of his own throat. However, he managed to speak these words; “I-I feel like Bantha crap.”

The doctor chuckled. “I know you would after you have crashed underwater of the ocean of Aquilaris.” He placed the DataPad on the table beside the bed.

“I… <cough> I’ve got a really sore throat…” the man croaked. The doctor placed a cold had on the survivors fore head. Then he looked over at the health monitor.

“Yeah, that is expected for a sore throat. Your health monitor indicates you’ve got a temperature of almost 112.”

The survivor coughed some more, and breathed in pretty heavily.

“Are you feeling alright? Would you like me to get you a glass of…”

But the survivor didn’t listen. All he could feel was the thumping inside of his chest. He breathed in heavily, and felt a sudden pain inside of himself. He clapped his hand on his chest. The doctor looked alarmed, and watched his health monitor. He stood up, and grabbed for his comlink. “Emergency in 7B. I repeat: Emergency in 7B!”

The survivor coughed up blood, and the thudding pain in his chest grew stronger. He screamed in agony. “P-please! Kill me… Argh!”

He lifted his shirt to reveal his stomach to the doctor. The doctor stared in shock at the chest; a huge lump grew from the chest, and suddenly burst out! Blood splattered everywhere and oozing silver teeth ate its way up through the air…

General Valmon stood behind the desk of his office, awaiting the arrival of his appointment. He stared at the holographic digital clock emitting from his desk, getting impatient at every second he had spent waiting for Major Kayne. Valmon forced himself to pace around his brightly lit office, to occupy himself. On the back wall stood a large window overlooking the oceans of Aquilaris at night.

Half an hour passed, and his company arrived. The automated sliding door of the office opened to reveal the Major; he was about six feet tall, short black hair and specs of facial hair around his jaw. He wore a zipped-up black leather jacket with an armored vest over it. Around his waste was a utility belt and a hip-holstered blaster pistol. Valmon couldn’t say he was pleased to see him after waiting.

“Ya’ late, Major!” Valmon began.

“I left in a hurry…” Kayne grinned at his collogue. There wasn’t a returning smile.

“Lets just get down to business, Major!” Valmor sat behind his desk, and activated his Holographic Projector to present blue prints of what appeared to be the underwater utopian city: Reef City.

“About 16 hours ago, we’ve lost contact with the colony on Reef City. Seven days before the incident, they picked up some kind of Republic Escape Pod containing only one survivor with some sort of… parasitic organism attached to his face.”

Hearing this had caused Kayne to pull a half-serious half-disgusted look across his face. “…To his face? What the hell was it?”

“We aren’t quite sure what it was, nor do we know what happened afterwards. But based upon this recording, we have some insight on the matter.” And the Valmon reached his finger to the Terminal’s keyboard, and pressed a button. Instantly, Kayne heard whispers from the Terminal’s speakers.

“We’ve found another victim. Looks like the same process of death as the other victims; something had burst out of the chest… wait, whats that?”

There was a pause, and a horrifying, monstrous screech had appeared out of nowhere.

“aaaargh! Retreat! Retreat!” There were the sounds of gun blasts and then all of a sudden static. The General switched it off. Kayne had stared in astonishment at the Valmor of what he had just heard.

“Your mission will be too eliminate this threat. Preventing it from reaching the surface. Or otherwise, we have no idea what the outcome may be. And incase it is of any comfort, you and your squad won’t be going alone.”

“Come again?”

“Accompanying you will be a our expert cryptozoologist; Doctor Evalon Rain.”

“… What possible use do we have for someone who studies animals?”

“I hired her to acompany you so she can identify what you’re dealing with. I’d like her to accomany you as an adviser. Though I am confident she can take good care of herself, she will need protecting.”

“Okay, but don’t blame us if she wonders off and gets herself killed.” Kayne frowned at the general.

“I pray in hopes that will never happen. Remember, Major; your mission will be to infiltrate the underwater city and eliminate this biological threat. We cannot allow it to reach the surface, for all we know, everything could be in jeopardy…”

The Submersible Hanger was as large as any normal hanger could be, with the acception of pools for the submersibles to float. Cargo and crates were stacked in completely random spots. Republic Soldiers, Scientists and Handymen were walking around, attending there business.

Kayne’s squad was already waiting for him near a large submersible big enough to fit the seven of them (including the cryptozoologist, though she was no where to be seen amongst the group.

The team of six were sitting on Cargo boxes, all were wearing same armored uniforms as Kayne was. There was his second in command; Rylon, whom was green skinned male Twi’lek, whom seemed the most normal of the entire squad. The other members consisted of Tags, a greasy black haired man whom was above all the most ignorant. Kage, the dark skinned Tech specialist. Sonja, a human female Weapons Expert and was considered to be a tomboy. The last two remaining were Den, the Kel Dor male and Ranger, the female Zabrak.

“Your late, sir!” Rylon greeted Kayne. “Attention on deck!” the entire squad got up and stood in line. Kayne paced to look at each member’s face.

“Alright team! I want this to go as smooth and clean as you can possibly make it. Now, as we—“

“Sir?” Kage interupted. “Sorry to interupt, but may I ask what it is we are dealing with?”

It was har describing something when you don’t know what it was, Kayne thought. The Major chose his words.

“At this point, all we know is that it is some kind of hostile organism. I spare details, because I honestly do not know what the enemy is. However, accompanying us will be an expert to examine this “specimen”… which she doesn’t appear to be with us, as far as I can tell…”

“I’m right here!” a pretty little blonde walked over to the squad. She was wearing a pearly-white tunic, with a utility belt around here waste. She had ocean blue eyes and light freckles on her nose which seemed to blend in well with her skin. She was holding a datapad in her hands, and checking off the Squad Members names.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Major Syrus Kayne, leader of my Squad, whom call themselves the Krayt Dragons.”

“Just so ya know, I invented the name!” Tags called out. Kayne gave him a whithering look and turned back to there guest.

“Pleasure to meet you all. As you have no doubt have guessed, I am Evalon Rain.” She held out her hand. Kayne shook it.

“Lets get down to business. Squad…” he turned back to his group. “It is also our job to protect Miss Rain---“

“Doctor Rain” Evalon correceted.

“Right… It is also our job to protect Doctor Rain, as she isn’t a soldier. I’d like you all to treat her with respect and accept any advice she offers.”

Tags raised his hand. Kayne rolled his eyes at him and answered.

“What is it, Tags?”

“When do we get to start drawin’ blood?” a crazy look in his rat-like eyes...

Kayne hopped into one of the two pilot seats of the submersible. Accompanying in the co-pilot seat was Den, the Kel Dor, who also happened to be a pilot for a submersible and regular space travel. The rest of the squad however took there seats in the passenger section. There they loaded up their weapons and slipped their armor. Evalon, the scientist accompanying them, sat with the squad.

“Okay, we’re all set! Ready for submerge in a countdown of ten seconds…”

Kayne tried to make himself comfortable in his seat, and wrapped his hands around control sticks controlling the little submarine. He had a bad feeling about this mission.

“3, 2, 1… Submerge!”

The Submersible plunged into the water, where their scenery was shifted into a long shaft underwater. The passage was guided by little lights, where it illuminated there pathway into exit and into the ocean.

Kayne and Den steered the submersible through the tunnel and immediately exited out of the station and into the blue. They drove deeper and deeper into the water towards there near destination; Reef City.

Kayne looked up the ceiling window to see the surface was litten with early morning sunshine, and the rays of light barely reaching the ocean floor. There environment was filled with schools of strange looking fish and coral reefs.

The Major looked at the Navigational Chart.

“According to our this little “doo-hickey” of a device, we are nearing Reef City. Prepare the docking cycle, Den.”

“Yes sir!” the Kel Dor spoke through his mask. He pressed many buttons on his command consol. There was a “whiring” noise in the background, indicating the docking cycle was beginning.

Over in the distance, they could see the outline of the citadel underwater station; Reef City. It was as Kayne had remembered: the center of the massive colony was where a massive coliseum-like structure lay, with a massive bubble-like ceiling covering the opening. Surrounding the coliseum were structures of underwater skyscrapers with connecting tubes and lifts. As they passed over head of it, Kayne noted the lights emitting from the buildings.

“Looks like the power is still runniing…” he said. “There may still be survivors.”

They flew through the water passing through the buildings and tubes, towards there point of access to the city, which was the main dock.

At last, they came across a large, square building with a gaping mouth protected by some force field preventing the water from entering. The submersible went through it, and the landing legs settled onto the pad.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are encrafted!” he got out of his seat, and walked into the passenger section.

“Okay Dragons, listen’ up! You all know the procedures; we will send in a Four-man group. Kage, you can disable the security doors. Tags and Ranger will accompany to secure the area. Rylon, you're squad leader! Understood?”

“Yes sir!” the four of them said at the same time. They grabbed their weapons, and their helmets. The jet-black helmets were shaped to fit over the entire head. It provided a wide screen visor, which had a Night vision scope attachment and Infrared vision attachment. Del and Rylon were the only ones who had to wear special helmets that resembled New Republic pilot helmets, due to the structure of their entire skulls. Never the less, the helmets Del and Rylon were forced to wear provided a wide visor with the included luxuries.

They marched out of the submersible with there modified blaster rifles pointing in random locations. Kayne and the others were monitoring them with the video surveillance in the helmets, so they could see what they could see. The dock was fairly large, with the typical cargo crates stacked against walls. Up ahead was a wide stairway which led to a door exiting the dock. But aside from the description, the place was dark and uninhabited. Empty of life.

“Okay group 1, Proceed!” Kayne commanded through the comlink. Evalon sat next to him watching the viewing screens, keeping a lookout for anything unusual.

The group ran up the wide staircase, and that’s when they noted the large door currently locked. Kage smirked.

“This shouldn’t be a problem.” He walked over to the control panel and started fumbling with the wires to unlock the door. He pulled out from his kit a small multitool, which looked like a screwdriver only with flashing lights.

Within seconds, he got the door open. The group rushed in, pointing their weapons at random spots incase of enemy attacks. It was pitch black. The four of them activated there night vision modes on their visors. A long, wet corridor was outlined with Ultra-Violet green.

They walked slowly forwards, hoping to encounter an enemy to satisfy the urge of killing something.

“Ugh!” Tags yelped in disgust. “What the hell?”

The group stopped, looking at Tags. They could see clearly what the disturbance was.

“Tags, what happened?” Kayne asked through the Comlink.

“A corpse, sir. Deceased from some kind of rupture…” The camera sight looked at a deceased man. His face was as dead and pale as bone. But the torso was even horrifying.

There was a large, hole through the chest. Blood was spattered everywhere on the man’s grey tunic, and drippling on the wet metal floor.

Rylon knealt down beside the body. Kayne looked at Evalon, whom was starting to turn green.

“Poor guy. Looks like he’s been dead more than two hours ago… and from the looks of that hole in his chest, it kind of looks like something had broke out of his body…”

Evalon jumped out of her chair and ran for the nearest trash compactor. She opened the lid and started spewing from the sickness. Kayne patted her on the back.

“What the hell happened down here?” Kayne muttered.

I'd hate to be any guy who just had an alien inside their chest  thanks anyway.

Kayne and rest of the squad who had remained behind in the Submersible, looked in horror as they stared at the Video feed of the man with a whole in his chest.

“Sir… you don’t some kind of… Psychotic Cult did this, do you?” Sonja wondered, sweat rolling down her forehead.

“I don’t think so… I’m guessing its got something to do with our “unwanted guests””

The team inside of the corridor proceeded cautiously. The sound of dripping water came from the wet, metal ceiling above, so the group had to listen carefully for anything unusual.

They came to a halt at a wide, metal door oozing with water. Though the door appeared to be securely locked, the control panel next to it looked completely intact and functional.

“Okay Kage. Open the door and proceed with caution!”

“Copy that!” Kage responded. In the video footage, two gloved hands opened the lid of the Control Panel, and began thumbling with wires and buttons. Within seconds, the Door made a click of indication that it became unlocked.

It automatically slid open, to reveal gloomy, wide hallway. The center of the room had a long water feature running across. To the far right was a booth with a reception desk inside, which was currently unoccupied, as expected. The lights were flickering and flashing, which made the scene so typical of creepy moments.

Tags walked straight for the water feature, dunk his hand into it and slurped the water from it. He gurgled and spat it out. Kayne sighed, and chuckled when he saw on the video footage of Ranger slapping Tags over the back head for being idiotic.

“Quit fooling around, people!” Kayne spoke through the comlink. “Keep moving and find a secure area for us to set up a home base!”

Following orders, the group proceeded to the far end of the room, where they entered through an arch doorway. They stepped onto a metal catwalk framing around a complex. A staircase connecting from the catwalk led down into a square courtyard with a large plant feature in the center. The walls surrounding were filled with advertisements and doorways leading into various rooms. At the far end of the room was an elevator, which likely led into the city.

“Hmmm… this looks like an okay spot! Lets set up base here for now, people!”

______________________________

By the time the rest of the squad arrived, the entire area was secure by the first squad. Noting from the bright lights and glowing advertisements, Kayne had to guess the power was still running in this area.

“Okay, people! I think now is a good time to set up our security. Kage and Sonja will set up Droid Sentries on the outside of the elevator, while the rest of you prepare Video Surveillance. I want this entire place secured before we do anything!”

Tags raised his hand.

“What is it, Tags?” Kayne responded.

“I gotta go to the can, sir!”

“Can’t you wait?” Kayne frowned.

“Nope! I REALLY gotta go…”

Kayne sighed. “Okay, fine! Be quick about it!”

Tags ran off and entered through a doorway leading into the small hallway of gender separated bathrooms. Tags, ever so curious, entered the bathroom titled “Ladies”.

He entered a cubicle and sat down on the bowl. He reached from his pocket a small Comlink.

“I’ve gained entrance!” he spoke through the device.

“Excellent!” the Comlink responded. “You already know what you must do, Tags. Succeed, and you will receive all the credits you need.”

Tags switched off the comlink. He suddenly heard a sound above him. A slow, crawling sound which seemed like it came from a ventilation shaft.

Tags pulled out his Blaster Pistol and looked up at the ceiling, where he found a vent gate. He glared, and saw a shadow covering the inside of the gate.

“Its rude to peep in on a person doin’ his business…”

The gate suddenly popped free, and landed on the floor with a loud “clank”. A dark figure was present in the vent, and bared silver teeth at its victim. It opened its mouth, which made a hissing noise, and a long tongue sprouted from its mouth and also bared teeth, like it was a second mouth. The rest of the detail wasn’t clear seeing how dark the vent was. All Tags could do was sit in horror.

“What-the-h---“

The creature reached out grasping hands around Tags head and brought him up into the vent. He screamed as he was being dragged to his doom…
