Should I continue with my TSL movie, and if so, how?

  1. 1. Should I continue with my TSL movie, and if so, how?

    • Definitely keep it up, and you're doing a good job selecting scenes/directing
    • Definitely keep it up, but slow down on posting clips and let fans pick their fave parts

    • Quit while you're "ahead" and go play Mask of the Betrayer!

I've finished the first hour of my TSL movie and posted it on YouTube:

I'm more than satisfied with what came out of my long week of work on this, but I seem to have trouble deciding which scenes are most crucial and which are simply "filler". Take the Peragus hour--could I have cut it down to 30 minutes?

Also, my movie lacks any sort of voiceovers for the Exile, and I can't get rid of her text options for the dialogue. Please watch this film, all 6 parts, and tell me within the next 2 days if you think I should continue or not. I say 2 days because I'm dying to know what you think of it and don't want to waste either my time or yours. Thank you so much for your feedback, input, and comments!

Most sincerely,

Tysyacha

Tysyacha, I just watched 'most' of your clips (except for part six) and I have to say I really like your clips.

I think, that if its your TSL movie, than its up to you how it should be. The quality of the video's were fairly good, with good music quality also.

The only thing I majorly didn't like was that it was too dark for my tastes...but then, I keep my computer on ultra bright! :D

Have fun with your videos, and I'll be watching them as they get uploaded. Cheers!

What is your purpose behind making this film? Is it to satisfy your own vision or is it to garner some sort of following with a fan base? If you are doing it because you are inspired to do so, then I recommend that you immediately stop asking for feedback at this point and continue your project until you are happy with your final product. If you are aspiring to become a film maker, then you are going to learn valuable lessons about the process while making this, regardless of whether it sucks or non (I haven't seen it).

However, if you a simply doing it to gain some popularity/appease the fanboys and fangirls, then realize that you will spend quite a bit of time trying to satisfy test audiences and will most likely not end up with a final product that you can call your own.

I hope that helps. Best of luck with your project.

You want honesty so here it is.

I only saw part 1 but from what I could tell it’s just you playing the game how you want to play it and recording it to post claiming it’s a movie. I mean why would anyone who can play The Sith Lords decide to spend an hour watching this movie when they can create their own experience rather than seeing your interpretation of it. If you create your own mod to change the way the story unfolds completely and ‘filmed’ that then I’d have some understanding of this project but as far as I can tell you haven’t.

If you do intend to continue this you need to try and get different angels when the Exile is running around rather than from behind all the time and get rid of the HUD, Pointer, etc. to make it look cleaner. You also need for the Exile to have a voice to speak the responses that you selected for the movie and to remove the selections of responses in the first place.

Anyway personally it’s not my cup of tea and I see it as nothing more than a preview for people who have not let bought the game and are thinking of buying it.

Wow. In all honesty, I really don't know if I'm going to continue this or not, because the last thing I intended was for my TSL "movie" to be YouTube self-pleasuring. What I really wanted to do was create a cinematic experience like Kaydon Sentry's KOTOR 1 movie, because it brought a fresh perspective to a game I'd already played twice.

I enjoyed seeing the main character's perspective on things and hearing the PC's voiceovers. Also, the editing in the KOTOR 1 film is clean, exciting, and smooth, which is something I haven't yet figured out how to master. As for my efforts...*sigh* I wanted to make something monumental out of capturing the gameplay of The Sith Lords--not just a mix of jumbled and disconnected clips as a "preview" but something that told the Exile's story. I guess I haven't done what I set out to do, and the thing is, I don't know how. I'm just trying, and right now I'm sad and angry and frustrated.

I really like doing this project, but as starmark said, I'd rather play the game, and the reason I enjoyed KOTOR 1 and all its installments was because I had played it.

(Note: I've since deleted all 6 parts. I don't know if I'll start over, but it was worth a shot to try and attempt something of this caliber anyway. Do any of you have an idea of how I can tell the Exile's story without detailing so much of the game experience that it kind of ruins it?

Second Note: I have an idea to do a music video of my gameplay a la SWExile's edit of Linkin Park's "Faint"! That Exile was DSF, and I'll do LSF.)
