JRHockney*
ATTENTION OJP COMMUNITY!! In order to make a compromise between total customization and overall balance, I came up with this idea for a default OJP setting. I came up with this idea because the pure gunner balance against jedi at my server has become ALOT closer to being balanced (basically killing a jedi with just a blaster is plenty possible, but its probably alot more likely to kill a good one with using items) I was thinking maybe start with 50 points. jedi and hybrids get no access to items except maybe cloak and something else not very threatening after 75 points they get a few extra options maybe force powers or a few items. over 100 they get everything. Pure gunners will get access to almost everything from the get go. This way, if a server wants more balanced gameplay (or we just make this default) they can set points to minimum of 50 and max of 100. If they want total customization they just have to set it to over 100. I'm thinking jedi and hybrids will only get cloak and bacta as far as items are concerned to start. Then they can earn after 75 points force field and jetpack (so they can at least track down snipers without creative jumping ) and maybe lightning and grip since they are a bit more powerful. what do you guys think? Good idea or bad idea? Also, we can negotiate on some of these ideas as well if need be.
DarthDie
I like it, and yeah I think it is doable .

Yango
Not sure, you mean a jedi would still have weapons right? Just access to items would be restricted? Uh.. I'd not restrict force powers at all, as they are quite expensive already. I don't presonally like the idea of restricting anything, maybe you could put some additional costs on hybrids instead? In the end - toggleable, please.. No voting yet.
DarthDie
Yes we would only restrict Items. I was thinking maybe start with 50 points. jedi and hybrids ---> get no access to items except maybe cloak and something else not very threatening after 75 points they get a few extra options maybe force powers or a few items. over 100 they get everything. Pure gunners will get access to almost everything from the get go.
razorace
Sorry to be the nay-sayer, but I'm against it. It goes against the concept of a open skill system if certain item combinations are banned. Secondly, based on the way the code works, this might be a bit tricky to impliment properly (but not impossible). Don't take that as an admin veto or something. Majority rules around here. Alec{zacool}
Well, It should be optional. Also, I hate it how half the time, people have all the force powers, and half the weapons, it's unrealistic, just like in MB2, everyone should be specialists in certain areas. JRHockney*
Sorry to be the nay-sayer, but I'm against it. Secondly, based on the way the code works, this might be a bit tricky to impliment properly (but not impossible). Don't take that as an admin veto or something. Majority rules around here. Well like my idea talks about, they would not be banned unless the server sets the max to 100 points. I think thats reasonable. Heck if they wanted totally open, they just set the minimum to 101. Also I'm sure we could create a game option of total openness if we really thought it was neccessary as well, but after trying DESPERATELY to balance all 3 suedo OJP "classes" there are just too many combinations too account for that just rule everything. It was hard enough to get teh present balance I have at my server between normal gunners using items and against jedi. Throwing hybrids in the mix is with no restrictions is just a nightmare to balance because you have to create exploits for EVERY imaginable combination. Thats just too much work and I'd like to release something balanced and fun alot sooner than it would take to do that. Also, this could be the beginning of a really fun rpg liek progression system. Also, I don't think the code will be that hard based on what I've seen in the ui..though darth will probably still have to do it It would be like: if(player point stats != 75 && force power inventory or whatever != SEEING_1){ restrict or allow such and such items} and so on. Theres already certain things restricted if you dont select seeing 1 or shicho. I dont imagine this should too too difficult....but thats for Darth die to decide. Overall, like I said, this is a compromise. A TON of players players have been asking for or suggesting some form of restrictions and this will give them alot of what they want as well as allow our total customization idea to still be in the mod. Unfortunately, the total customization hasnt proven to be as popular of an idea as we originally hoped and in the end, we must do whats best for the mod. I say lets give it a shot and see what if it helps. If it doesnt we can always create a completely open game setting or just push this into a cvar lol
Rtemis
I was thinking when someone would suggest that each saber forms be made more expensive.. Balance should start from there. Very unimaginable that after just 13 points you are uber already in saber wielding.

Why should there always be specialists? This isn't like it is one of the real movies :S. That's just like telling me I shouldn't use force powers with my weapons and or items on a map in CTF. (Plus use saber on occasion).
