Unique Civs...

Civs are more unique than I thought. For Example...

Galactic Empire Tech Tree

Strong Units: Mech and Troopers

* Aircraft take 5% longer to build and are 5%

more expensive

Unique Unit: Dark Trooper (Trooper)

Unique Technologies: Walker Research (Mech

Factory); Altered Bargains (Spaceport).

civilization Bonus: Upgrades to Heavy Mechs

are 5% less expensive than other civs.

That's not that big of a difference.

If you want civ difference try giveing the Empire's troops twice the HP and strength but they cost twice as much. Thats waht RA2 did. The differences are very subtle in AOK and GB. Besides the UU's, the difference in gameplay is hardly noticable.

Gaber has already posted about this topic. he wanted the civs to have less special bonuses than in AOE, so you dont get one civ muchbetter than the other. There will be huge differences in gameplay, as anyone who tries to build lots of air with the empire will find out

The Empire doesnt get sheilds, which is idiotic:( but they have a nice array of ground troops. Which makes up for there crappy air. The rebels and Naboo have very good air troops. Im not the person who likes total game balance on all sides. I like the way RA2 is set up so the soviets are better but more expensive, the allies make up for that with there ability to see the entire map (with the dish) and have the nice enhancement of cheap troops.:) But oh well I cant complain :)

Dude, why is empire having weak air idiotic?? Thats how they are. Thats fine that you like it like that other game, but Lucasarts wanted to make their game reflect the movies and be balanced. They seem to have done fine. The empire haveing terrible air is not idiotic, if you have seen a movie you should know that

They have weak air UNTIL the TIE Defender is researched!!! Then the ultimate fighter becomes avalable to the Imperials...but for a VERY large price most likly...but of course that is to be expected...

in every space flight sim tiefighters of every kind (execept tie advenced ie. darths fighter) have never had shilds but they always had enough to peck away at you i like that lucasarts stays with the movies and doesnt go off in a whole nother derection (light sabers that shoot energy pluses ect..)

Something I haven't seen, but I think that the Rebels should get is the ability to build 'fake' buildings like the GDI had in Red Alert.

Hilarious to build a fake base, surrounded by walls and turrents/aa and once the poor fool finally made it inside *wham* you hit him at his stronghold.

:p

Although it wouldn't work on most experienced players who would explore the entire map. It could give you the illusion of a much larger force and you could also mix fakes in with the real buildings inside your base, which would delay the attacks on the real deal.

Be hard to find the real buildings in a base that took up 25% of the map!

:)

Sorry but the TIE Defender has shields...it is the final upgrade for the TIE Fighter for the Imps.

The TIE Advanced (not Vader's TIE) also had shields, but the Tie Defender had better ones and was more manuverable and powerfull and faster.

Also, during his campaign, Thrawn started outfitting TIE Interceptors with shields, realizing that he could no longer waste resources uneccessarily.
