Reskinning and file names... -_-

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm very new here, and I've just got into modding. I just made my first mod yesterday, I reskinned a jedi robe for my character in KOTOR II.

Now, I was trying to reskin some other things, and I'm not sure what to do next... I need a little guidance from the masters. :emodanc:

I then found the file and the texture okay (hmm, it was like a_robe_01... and the texture was PFBI01 errr. something. Sorry, can't remember off the top of my head.)

Next I wanted to make another reskin, I found the texture for a twi'lek outfit (the red one that the green twi'leks wear) and I coloured it the way I want... Now what? Where is the .uti file that I need to change to use my new texture? I can't find it... Or is there even one? Can I just use a basic clothing .uti file and use my new texture with that?? (That wouldn't work, but perhaps there's something I'm missing)

Also, after I've reskinned the twi'lek clothes for human use, how do I make it so any PC could wear the clothes? Do I have to make a different skin colour for each one? Or can I just make one reskin, and make it so the skin colour changes, depending on what character I put it on?

Hmmm, I hope I'm not too confusing with my question... Sometimes people don't understand what I'm asking...

Those were a bit confusing, plus I'm not entirely sure that they answered what I wanted... Hmmm, let's see I'll start with this:

How can I located the base .uti files for texture files?

I was able to locate the texture I wanted to reskin:

N_TwilekFA01.jpg

But now I cannot find the correct .uti file that corresponds with the clothes, so that I can edit it to make it usable by humans and give it the correct texture variation number.

Also, where the twi'lek skin is green, I changed the colour to a white coloured skin, however, is there a way to make it so whoever you put it on, their skin colour shows through? (So instead of making a billion files, one for tan skin, white skin, etc.) can there just be ONE file, that works with every skin colour?

Same thing goes for heads, I was able to located texture files but I wasn't sure what to do next.

(Is there a simple tutorial for just reskinning a head, but not replacing one? I think you can add new characters with the TSL Patcher, but I'm not sure as to how to work it, if you could point me in the right direction with a linky to a tutorial, it would be much appreciated. ^^)

No worries

How can I located the base .uti files for texture files?

The clothes you mentioned won't have a .uti for them ingame. You will need to create one.

You may find it helpful to download one of 90SK's mods and disect what it he has done to achieve the different looks...

K2:http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/90SKs_SUPER_Content_Mod;89554

Personally I have always found it very helpful to look at they way another modder has done something I won't to do, so taking their mod apart is a reccomended way of learning things.

Specific places to look are custom .uti's and appearance.2da

I was able to locate the texture I wanted to reskin:

But now I cannot find the correct .uti file that corresponds with the clothes, so that I can edit it to make it usable by humans and give it the correct texture variation number.

You will need to make that .uti

Also, where the twi'lek skin is green, I changed the colour to a white coloured skin, however, is there a way to make it so whoever you put it on, their skin colour shows through? To my knowledge you will unfortunatly have to match the skin colour to head manually. Sorry.

If you want to reskin a head, you can just go ahead and edit in photoshop, if you only want to skin a head, all you have to do is extract the relevant .tpc (.tga) and edit it, then stick it in the override.

Here's an example of that from me; http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Kurt_Cobain_PC;90250

I hope that clarified things more helpfully for you :)
