SandyA
I cannot get Jedi Academy to load on Vista. Jedi Outcast loaded and patched up fine. I have tried to load via the XP Service pack 2 compatibility but still the CD stops at 91%. I verified the CD is fine by loading the game onto another XP machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mikouen
Since you're using Vista I'm going to assume you have a dual-core system, so I'll give you the one tip that's saved my bacon a few times - using the Task Manager (or preferably Process Explorer if your Task Manager frequently suffers from the infamous API hang error), set any and all processes related to JK2/JA to single-core affinity. You're going to have problems from the ground up with them if you allow them to have an affinity to more than one processor. Also, if you have ZoneAlarm installed, get rid of it. It's notorious for causing any and all applications to hang after a period of time when used under Vista. So long as you don't go downloading random stuff from random sites, are careful about your outgoing data (use secure login screens anywhere and everywhere they're available) and have Avast antivirus running as backup, Vista's integrated firewall should be sufficient for home usage. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Mikouen
To be honest, the folder isn't really relevant. "A rose by any other name...." The program is the same however you change the settings during installation. =/

SandyA
I just tried to load the game outside the default Program Files/Lucas Arts path and once again the CD just stops loading at 91%.
Mikouen
Can you explain this =/ in more detail please?I merely meant that changing the folder name would not help with the problem, since the installer and programs are the same in any case. Have you tried running the installer using the 'Run as Administrator' option? Nearer the end of the install process is when the installer has to set up the game's registry entries, perhaps Vista's User Account Control is preventing it from doing this due to it not having proper permissions. 'Run as Administrator' should fix that - should be right below Open when you right-click on setup.exe.
SandyA
I explored the CD and run two seprate icons as "Run as Administrator" to no avail: Autorun & the image that displays the wording JediAcademy. In addition I cannot seem to locate an exact setup.exe file. Where is it on the CD?

SandyA
Yes. I tested it on another laptop which is XP sp2. The game loaded as per normal.

SandyA
HD in this case is Hard Drive. Of course! Well I tried this loading to the hard drive and once again the CD stopped working . . . I assume 91%. Here are two important facts: 1. This 2 pack Jedi Academy CD installs successfully on XP computers 2. There is slight scratch on the 2nd CD Could it be plausible that XP extracts data from CD's in a different manner that XP and this scratch is indeed a loading error factor here. As now other Vista use in this forum appears to have had this issue. I can only logically surmise that this scratch has to be the problem for my VISTA laptop. Perhaps by simply purchasing a new Jedi Academy game I can achieve loading success. What do you think?
SandyA
SUCCESS! It was the CD! How weird that it would load on XP and not Vista. I loaded the 2nd CD to a network PC succussfully and then copied it over to my Vista laptop. However I could not the game to load via the folder so I burned a copy of CD 2 to a CDR. Then I loaded disc 1 and then loaded the copied disc to a triumphant success. I then destroyed the copied CD. All is well . . . learn something new with PC's all the time. And when is Lucas Arts going to make more PC games! Where is our next Jedi Knight and X-Wing or Tie Fighter games!
